This year, Gauff kicked off her clay court swing at the 2025 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, where she reached the quarterfinals before losing to Jasmine Paolini. Leading up to the Grand Slam, she competed in the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, finishing as the runner-up in both tournaments after falling to Aryna Sabalenka and Paolini, respectively.

Coco Gauff Picked As Favorite To Win French Open 2025 by Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Tommy Paul

Gauff is set to begin her campaign at the 2025 French Open on Monday, May 26, where she will face Olivia Gadecki in the first round. It will be their maiden encounter on the WTA Tour.

Recently, during a media session at Roland Garros, ATP stars Fritz, Shelton, and Paul were asked to predict which female player would claim the clay court Major title this year. All three players selected Coco Gauff as their top choice.

“I mean, let’s go with Coco. I gotta support Coco. I have to,” Taylor Fritz said.

“I think my winner on the women’s side will be an American – Coco,” Ben Shelton said.

“I got Coco. I think she is playing great, having come out of two finals. I think she is hungry but also confident,” Tommy Paul said.

On the men’s side, Taylor Fritz is seeded fourth at the 2025 French Open, the highest-seeded American player in the tournament. He will begin his run by facing Daniel Altmaier in the first round. Meanwhile, Tommy Paul is seeded 12th, and Ben Shelton is seeded 13th.

Paul defeated lucky loser Elmer Møller in the first round to advance to the second, where he will take on Márton Fucsovics. Shelton, on the other hand, is set to face Lorenzo Sonego in his opening match.

She then overcame Alison Van Uytvanck in the second round, triumphing with a score of 6-1, 7-6(4).

The World No. 2 secured a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Kaia Kanepi and followed it up with a commanding 6-4, 6-0 win over 31st seed Elise Mertens in the third and fourth rounds, respectively, securing her place in the quarterfinals. There, she faced compatriot Sloane Stephens, defeating her 7-5, 6-2. In the semifinals, Gauff defeated Martina Trevisan to advance to the final.
