When reports surfaced that the organization planned to part ways with head coach Pete Carroll at the end of the season, Gilbert responded with a far more urgent demand.

Responding to reports about the Raiders parting with Carroll, the sports commentator delivered a direct message on X. “Should part ways tomorrow and his sons weeks ago, the 3 have been beyond woeful,” Gilbert wrote, making clear the entire coaching staff should be removed immediately rather than waiting until the offseason.
The Raiders currently sit at 2-13 with two games remaining, representing one of the worst seasons in franchise history. The offensive performance has been genuinely disastrous. The unit ranks 32nd in points per game at 14.0 and 31st in total yards per game at 281 yards. The situation deteriorated so rapidly that Carroll fired offensive coordinator Chip Kelly after just 11 games.
The dismissal came on Nov. 23 following a 24-10 home loss to Cleveland that dropped the record to 2-9. Kelly, who signed the richest coordinator contract in the NFL, oversaw an offense that struggled consistently. The Raiders have now lost nine consecutive games, including to Tennessee in Week 6.
When the season began, Carroll expressed confidence about the direction forward. During training camp, he stated, “We’re gonna win a ton. I’ve been winning 10 games a year for 20 years. What are my expectations? We’re going to win a bunch.” That prediction has proven entirely inaccurate. The offense reached historic lows in Week 15 when Philadelphia held the Raiders to just 75 total yards in a 31-0 shutout, the second-lowest in franchise history since 1961. The Raiders managed only 1.8 yards per play, underscoring the complete offensive failure.
Broader Issues Beyond Carroll’s Control
Carroll’s first season represents a complete disappointment despite the franchise’s attempts to achieve stability. The team has regressed compared to its 4-13 record from last year. Carroll also fired special teams coordinator Tom McMahon in November, indicating problems across the coaching staff. His son, Brennan Carroll, coaches the offensive line and has faced criticism due to the unit’s struggles in protecting the quarterback.
The Raiders have cycled through four head coaches in five years, a reflection of organizational dysfunction. The team has not won the AFC West in 23 seasons since 2002. Owner Mark Davis must now decide whether to make another coaching change. Given the magnitude of on-field failures, most observers expect the organization will pursue a new direction.
