Coco Gauff Reveals How She Truly Feels After Preliminary Practice Sessions at Wimbledon

Coco Gauff opens up about her true feelings on competing at Wimbledon as she continues her pre-tournament practice sessions.

Coco Gauff seems to be excited ahead of her 2025 Wimbledon campaign. The American arrived at SW19 following a disappointing start to her grass-court season at the Berlin Tennis Open. She recently opened up about her physical and mental preparations for the upcoming Major.

Coco Gauff Eager for Wimbledon Challenge, Speaks About Her Pre-Tournament Prep

Gauff entered the WTA 500 event in Berlin as the second seed and was expected to make a deep run. However, she was stunned in the second round by China’s Wang Xinyu, who controlled the match from start to finish and sealed a commanding 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Gauff’s early exit was all the more surprising given the momentum she carried from her recent French Open victory, her second Grand Slam singles title.

Nonetheless, the World No. 2 wasted little time and arrived in London to begin her preparations for Wimbledon. Gauff, having chosen to skip the remaining lead-up events, committed herself fully to training on the practice courts at the All England Club. Notably, Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka were also among the early arrivals at SW19.

Speaking to USA Today recently, Gauff shared her excitement about the upcoming Wimbledon Championships. As part of her physical preparation, the American focuses on the basics of grass-court play during her time in London.

“Yeah, mentally, I am really excited. Every time I come on these grounds, I get so inspired. So, I am really excited. Physically, like I had a week on. Or, I played a tournament last week and it wasn’t so great. So, this week I am really just trying to focus on the fundamentals of playing on grass and things like that. So, I am super excited, and I feel like each day I’m getting better, and hopefully I can do well here,” she said.

Grass has been a tricky surface for Gauff, who has yet to reach a WTA final on it. Her win percentage on grass stands at a respectable 69.23, though it remains lower than her records on hard and clay courts. At Wimbledon, she has made it to the fourth round on three occasions (2019, 2021, and most recently in 2024), and this year, she’ll be aiming to break past that barrier.

Coco Gauff Stays Upbeat After Berlin Setback Ahead of Wimbledon

Coco Gauff expressed her determination to bounce back following a disappointing outing in Berlin last week. The World No. 2 admitted it was a tough day and acknowledged the difficulty of making quick adjustments.

“It was a tough one today but happy to be back on court 🙂 Tried my best to adjust with the quick turnaround but it wasn’t enough. as always, i’m learning as I go so I hope to do better next time.thank you berlin for the short but sweet visit, I’ll come back stronger next year,” Gauff wrote on Instagram.
