Lorde Song Pushes Coco Gauff’s Boyfriend Jalen Sera To Pick Up His Racket

After two years of speculation, Coco Gauff finally made it official this year that she was dating Jalen Sera. The two have been together since 2023, and Sera has been a constant presence through the ups and downs of Gauff’s tennis journey. That support became evident when Gauff admitted that after a loss on the court, she felt comfortable speaking only to Sera, as he was able to handle her emotions and lift her spirits.

Sera is not from the world of sports, but from music and entertainment. The Atlanta-born singer has his own page on IMDb and often reacts to and comments on Gauff’s posts. The American player wished her boyfriend a happy birthday in May, while Sera responded with supportive messages after several of Gauff’s wins this season.

Recently, Sera shared a glimpse of himself picking up a tennis racquet and heading to the courts. He posted the song “Tennis Court” by Lorde, which served as his inspiration. He also shared a snapshot on his Instagram story, captioning it, “What Lorde Say?”

“Tennis Court” was described as Lorde’s reflection on her then-impending fame, achieving commercial success in Oceania by topping the charts in New Zealand and reaching No. 20 in Australia. She explained that she wrote the track after gaining an early glimpse into the music industry, noting that it made her reflect on superficiality and the façades people often present. The image of a tennis court, she added, struck her as visually appealing and nostalgic, something she frequently revisited online and associated with familiarity and safety.

On the court, Gauff won 48 of the 64 matches she played, capturing her second major title at the French Open, once again defeating Aryna Sabalenka, whom the American also beat in the final of the 2023 US Open. She also won the WTA 1000 event in Wuhan and finished runner-up in Madrid and Rome.

However, despite that success, there were stretches when Gauff looked far from her best. Her serving frailties resurfaced, contributing to a midseason dip in form. She was eliminated in the first round at Wimbledon and suffered a comprehensive loss to Naomi Osaka in the fourth round of the US Open. The world No. 3 took steps to address the issue by hiring a biomechanics expert to correct her service mechanics and become a more dominant force on tour.

Gauff is expected to compete at the United Cup to begin her 2026 season, after playing a key role in Team USA’s victory at the event last year. She will then travel to Melbourne for the Australian Open, where her best result remains a semifinal appearance in 2024, when she lost to Sabalenka.
