Taylor Townsend’s singles campaign at the 2025 US Open came to a dramatic close, but the American’s fight on court drew love and support from fellow champions Coco Gauff and Bianca Andreescu. Both players took to social media to comfort Townsend after her heartbreaking fourth-round loss to Barbora KrejÄŤĂková.
How Did Coco Gauff and Bianca Andreescu Show Their Support for Taylor Townsend After the US Open Exit?
Townsend had been chasing her first-ever Grand Slam singles quarterfinal, equaling her previous best run at the 2019 US Open. This year’s effort ended in the Round of 16 at Louis Armstrong Stadium against the 2024 Wimbledon champion KrejÄŤĂková in a three-set thriller.
Townsend dominated the first set 6-1, but a grueling second-set tiebreak slipped away as KrejÄŤĂková saved eight match points and eventually sealed the match 1-6, 7-6 (15), 6-3. At the net, a tearful Townsend embraced her opponent, earning a standing ovation from the crowd.

In the aftermath of the match, Townsend reflected on the emotional rollercoaster by posting a carousel of images from the fourth round battle. “Left it all out there, but thank you #usopen for an unforgettable atmosphere. Onto Doubles tomorrow,” she wrote in her Instagram caption.
The post drew heartfelt responses from the tennis world. Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion, added a series of red heart emojis, while Andreescu, the 2019 champion in New York, chimed in with, “You a star.”

Townsend Shared Her Thoughts After Heartbreaking US Open Exit
Even through the tears, Townsend remained optimistic as she looked back on her US Open singles run in the post-match press conference. She emphasized her confidence in being on the right path toward breaking into the WTA’s elite and ultimately capturing a Grand Slam singles crown.
“I’m exactly where I need to be. I said it in D.C., and I was kind of inching there, but I’m exactly where I need to be. That’s it. I’m playing the tennis that I need to play to be inside the top 20, top 10 to win a Grand Slam,” Townsend said.
“She’s [KrejÄŤĂková] a two-time Grand Slam champion. I’ve beaten a Grand Slam champion this tournament. So I have everything that I need. And you know, it’s just about now, just keep getting the reps and keep putting myself in these types of positions. And this hurts, but it’s part of competition, it’s part of sports, but I’m right where I need to be,” she added.
Townsend’s campaign continues on the doubles front, where she and partner Kateřina Siniaková have progressed to the third round. The top-seeded pair is set to face Camila Osorio and Yue Yuan in their upcoming clash.
In mixed doubles, Townsend teamed up with compatriot Ben Shelton as a wildcard duo, reaching the quarterfinals before losing 1-4, 4-5 (2) to Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison.

Too many athletes in too many sports have had many disappointing moments in their lives. Why single out one person who didn’t mind the terrible behavior of the New York supposed tennis fans towards Mirra Andreeva
