What Rare Possession Caught Carlos Alcaraz’s Eye from Roger Federer at the Laver Cup?

A video shared on X showed Federer approaching Alcaraz in the cooldown area, rolling back his sleeve to reveal a rare Rolex. The Swiss legend then removed the watch and handed it to Alcaraz, who studied it carefully before smiling.

The watch Federer shared was no ordinary accessory. It was the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Ref. 126599TSA “Blue Sapphire,” an 18k white gold masterpiece with a silver obsidian dial. Its bezel is set with 36 baguette-cut blue sapphires, paired with sapphire-colored typography, while 54 brilliant-cut diamonds sparkle across the mid-case and lugs.

Matching markers complete the design, making it one of Rolex’s most extravagant creations. Priced at roughly $1.5 million, the Daytona is considered one of the most exclusive watches in the brand’s catalog and a fitting jewel for Federer.

Rolex and tennis have shared a close bond for decades, and Federer has been at the heart of that partnership since 2006. His association with the brand, reportedly valued at $8 million annually, saw him lift countless trophies wearing a Rolex on his wrist, including the 2009 Wimbledon title when he donned the iconic Datejust. Even in retirement, he remains tied to Rolex as a global symbol of its heritage.

Alcaraz, on the other hand, represents the brand’s next generation. Since signing with Rolex in 2022, he has brought youthful energy and star power, celebrating major victories at Wimbledon, the US Open, and Roland-Garros with Rolex watches front and center in his trophy photos.

How Did Alcaraz Perform at the 2025 Laver Cup?

At the 2025 Laver Cup, Alcaraz had a mixed but impactful performance for Team Europe. On Friday, he won a doubles match with Jakub Menšík against Taylor Fritz and Alex Michelsen, 7-6(7), 6-4. On Saturday, he lost a singles match to Fritz 6-3, 6-2, as Team World took control.

On Sunday, Alcaraz bounced back by winning both his doubles (with Casper Ruud, 7-6(4), 6-1) and singles matches (against Francisco Cerúndolo, 6-2, 6-1), but Team Europe fell short, and Team World won the Laver Cup 15-9.
