Taylor Fritz recently expressed his feelings after defeating Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 Laver Cup. This was their fourth meeting on the ATP Tour, and it marked Fritz’s first win against the World No. 1.
The eighth edition of the Laver Cup began on September 19, 2025, and will run until September 21, 2025. The matches are taking place on the indoor hard court at the Chase Center in San Francisco. Fritz, along with Reilly Opelka, Alex de Minaur, Francisco Cerúndolo, João Fonseca, and Alex Michelsen, is part of Team World.

On the second day of the Laver Cup, Team World started strong, winning the first two singles matches. In the third singles match that day, Fritz faced Alcaraz and won with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2.
Following his victory over Alcaraz, Fritz was asked during the post-match press conference whether he considered this win to be among his top three achievements, alongside his win over Rafael Nadal in the final of the 2022 Indian Wells Masters and reaching the final at the 2024 US Open.

In response, Fritz stated that he takes the most “pride” in his win over Alcaraz at the Laver Cup, more than any other achievement, because he believes he dominated the match from start to finish and played an “amazing” match throughout
“Yeah, I mean, I think I take almost more pride in this one, because I feel like I — start to finish like I won it and I earned it. I didn’t really win any of the — I think a lot of the decisive points in the match weren’t so much off of, like, him giving it to me. I felt like I made it happen in those moments. I, yeah, just start to finish played an amazing match, and I went out and I took it,” Fritz said.

Meanwhile, Team Europe, along with Alcaraz, is being represented by players like Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Jakub Menšík, Flavio Cobolli, and Tomáš Macháč.
Where Will Taylor Fritz and Carlos Alcaraz Compete Next?
Following the conclusion of their campaigns at the 2025 Laver Cup, Fritz and Alcaraz will next begin their run on the Asian swing of the Tour at the 2025 Japan Open. The tournament will be held at the Ariake Coliseum from September 24 to September 30, 2025.
In addition to Fritz and Alcaraz, players like Casper Ruud, Tomáš Macháč, Ugo Humbert, Denis Shapovalov, and Frances Tiafoe, among others, will compete in the ATP 500 hard-court tournament in Tokyo.
This year, the World No. 1 will compete at the Japan Open for the first time. Meanwhile, Fritz’s best result at this tournament came in 2022. He was seeded third and started his campaign by defeating James Duckworth with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-7(2), 6-1, and followed up with a win against lucky loser Hiroki Moriya with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 score in the first and second rounds, respectively.
The World No. 5 advanced to the semifinals after his quarterfinal opponent, Nick Kyrgios, withdrew from the tournament. In the final four, Fritz triumphed over seventh seed Shapovalov with a score of 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3, and then defeated his fellow American and fourth seed Tiafoe in the final with a 7-6(3), 7-6(2) score to claim the title.
