A recently-released video shows Andre Agassi giving instructions to Taylor Fritz, which helped him win over Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 Laver Cup. This match marked Fritz’s first win against the World No. 1 in the four times they have faced each other on the ATP Tour.
Agassi is captaining Team World at the Laver Cup for the first time, with Pat Rafter serving as vice-captain. In addition to Fritz, the team also includes Reilly Opelka, Alex de Minaur, Francisco Cerúndolo, João Fonseca, and Alex Michelsen. Team World is aiming to win its third title, while Team Europe is looking to defend its title.
What Did Andre Agassi Say to Taylor Fritz Before His Win Over Carlos Alcaraz at Laver Cup 2025?
On the first day of the 2025 Laver Cup, Team Europe dominated, winning three out of four matches and leading the tournament 3-1. The only victory for Team World that day came from Fonseca, who defeated Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 6-3, earning his team a point.
However, on the second day, Team World made a comeback by winning all four matches, scoring eight points to take a 9-3 lead in the tournament. In the third singles rubber of the day, Fritz faced Alcaraz and triumphed with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2.
Recently, the official social media page of the Laver Cup shared a video of Fritz and Agassi discussing strategies in between the sets, with the eight-time Grand Slam champion giving instructions to Fritz on how to defeat Alcaraz.
In the video, Agassi praises the World No. 5’s game plan, particularly his “early rally shots.”
“I love how purposeful you are in all your… especially those early rally shots. Don’t be scared on the ad court. Your backhand line off the second if it’s there. Get off to the races with that thing,” Agassi said.

The former World No. 1 also advised Fritz to play more aggressively against Alcaraz in order to secure the win.
“You’re inside that court. I like your inside out in too cuz the most he’s going to do most of the time is kind of try to chip that thing down to your feet and then be aggressive after you hit that close,” he continued.

Agassi also reiterated that he loved Fritz’s “aggression and purposefulness on the rally” against Alcaraz.
“Everything needs to be good tonight. Let me bring you up to speed on that one. Come on. I like your aggression and purposefulness on the rally. Let’s go. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. Great start,” Agassi added.
