Fans React to Carlos Alcaraz Splitting With Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero

On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Alcaraz announced his and Ferrero’s split on social media. He had begun working with Ferrero in 2019, after his agent, Albert Molina, convinced Ferrero to mentor the young Spaniard.

“Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player. Thank you for turning childhood dreams into realities. We’ve managed to reach the top, and I feel that if our sports paths had to part ways, it had to be from up there. From the place we always worked toward and always aspired to reach. Thank you for everything, Juanki!” Alcaraz wrote.

Following the announcement, Ferrero took to social media to wish Alcaraz the best in both his professional and personal life. He also mentioned that he wished he could have continued working together.

“Saying goodbye is never easy. We have worked hard, grown together, and shared unforgettable moments. Thank you, Carlos, for the trust. I wish you all the best, both professionally and personally. I wish I could have continued. I am convinced that good memories and good people always find a way to cross paths again,” Ferrero wrote.

Alcaraz and Ferrero’s split as player and coach drew various reactions from the tennis community, with fans sharing their thoughts on social media. One fan speculated that after learning about both Alcaraz and Ferrero’s statements regarding their split, it seemed like Ferrero was willing to continue, but the six-time Grand Slam champion had “sacked” him.

“If he was willing to continue, it sounds like alcaraz sacked him,” a fan posted.

One fan remarked that the split between the two Spaniards seemed unexpected. The fan suggested that the 22-year-old might be looking to improve his performance at the Australian Open, and therefore had decided to part ways with Ferrero to bring in a hard-court specialist to assist him.

“This came out of nowhere. Is he prepping for a big name coach signing or staying with Samu? He knows he needs AO to cement his legacy early. Who’s a proper hard court specialist to help him go the extra mile?” a fan wrote.

“Omg this came out of nowhere ((” a fan posted.

“Big shock but don’t necessarily think this was the wrong move. Sometimes it is good to move on from your childhood coach and to do that on good terms. Plenty of ways Alcaraz can still evolve, maybe no JFC helps that? Guess we’ll find out,” a fan wrote.

“Sounds like they had a big fight because the coach just said he would have loved to continue as coach,” a fan posted.

“WHAT? I hope I’m wrong, but this does NOT feel right at all!!” a fan wrote.

Since they began their partnership in 2019, Alcaraz and Ferrero have experienced tremendous success. Alcaraz has won 24 ATP Tour singles titles, including eight ATP Masters 1000 titles and six Grand Slam titles: two each at Wimbledon (2023 and 2024), the French Open (2024 and 2025), and the US Open (2022 and 2025). He also claimed the 2021 Next Gen ATP Finals title with Ferrero on his team.
