The quick turnaround between tournaments often takes a toll on players physically and mentally, yet they continue to show up with determination. Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz, for instance, has little time to recover from his Cincinnati Open triumph before competing in the US Open mixed doubles, which begins the very next day.
Nevertheless, Alcaraz has no intention of withdrawing. He is set to team up with Emma Raducanu to pursue the coveted title at Flushing Meadows.
Carlos Alcaraz Is Eager To Play Alongside Emma Raducanu at the US Open Despite Quick Turnaround From Cincinnati
Alcaraz’s grit was on full display at the 2025 Cincinnati Open as he powered his way to the final against arch-rival Jannik Sinner. What was expected to be a blockbuster clash, however, took a concerning turn when Sinner, trailing 0-5, was forced to retire due to illness, handing Alcaraz the title.
Notably, the US Open mixed doubles is set to begin immediately after the Cincinnati Open and run from August 19 to 20. The five-time Major champion was scheduled to partner with former US Open champion Emma Raducanu for the event. The pair was drawn against home favorites Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper in the round of 16.
During his post-match press conference in Cincinnati, Alcaraz said he looked forward to enjoying his time on court with Raducanu, even though they had a challenging opener ahead of them.
“I think it’s going to be new for me, which I love. I’m going to have so much fun playing there, playing with Emma. It’s going to be tough against Draper and Pegula, but I will try to enjoy as much as I can,” he said.

Alcaraz’s decision to compete at Flushing Meadows with virtually no break after Cincinnati highlights his resolve to perform under challenging circumstances. With just a two-hour flight from Cincinnati to New York and limited time to rest, the former World No. 1 remains determined to give his best in their US Open opener.

Alcaraz said that, even if he sleeps late after traveling to Flushing Meadows, he will still aim to play his best against Pegula and Draper and help Raducanu secure the win.

“So I will try to be at my best tomorrow after the trip to New York and probably going to sleep late but I will try to put my best tennis just to help Emma to get the win and let’s see if we will get it but I think it’s going to be fun and great to have those matches,” he added.
This year marks the first time the US Open mixed doubles coincides with Fan Week at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Top players such as Alcaraz, Świątek, Djokovic, Venus Williams and Pegula compete for the title and a staggering $1 million prize money.
