What do you call it when you try to stand up for someone, but instead turn the tide against yourself? Ubah Hassan may be able to answer that. In an attempt to defend Tennis sensation Coco Gauff against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka’s post-game comments, the Real Housewives star has instead appalled and angered tennis fans.
Sabalenka faced off against Gauff in the final of the 2025 French Open, with the American emerging victorious with a scoreline of 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4, securing her second singles Grand Slam title. Following her runner-up finish at Roland Garros, during the post-match press conference, Sabalenka expressed that Gauff’s victory was not solely due to her exceptional performance.
Aryna Sabalenka Body-Shamed by Ubah Hassan for Disparaging Comments About Coco Gauff
The Belarusian champion claimed that Gauff won because of Sabalenka’s mistakes, and not “because she played incredible”.
“I think it was more windy. Also, I think I was overemotional. I didn’t handle myself quite well mentally. Basically, that’s it. I was just making unforced errors. I don’t know. I have to check the statistics. I think she won the match not because she played incredible. Just because I made all of those mistakes, if you look from the outside, from kind of easy balls,” said .
These remarks of the World No. 1 did not sit well with television personality Hassan, who, while criticizing Sabalenka’s opinion, made a superficial comment on her appearance. “No mistake was made, darling, your lip filler just got in the way of your vision,” Hassan commented.

This did not sit well with tennis fans, who took to social media to voice their discontent. One fan pointed out that Hassan’s remarks were not funny, and it also exemplified blatant “misogyny.”
“Maybe I’m too woke but this isn’t funny it’s just straight up misogyny,” a fan posted.

One fan had had enough of the online hypocrisy, stating, “Americans are so f–king hypocrital Come here to talk about Sabalenka mistake like if they are the best person on the world and then they talk about racism, war and her body. Just f–k you all who think that just because other person do shit you have he right to make this comment,” a fan wrote.
“Will we ever see the world not shaming woman for her looks to prove her wrongs?” a fan posted asked exasperatedly.

Another fan stated that Hassan’s comments lacked constructive criticism and were simply “gross.”
“yeah this is just crossing a line now… all valid criticisms have gone out of the window and now she’s being attacked for her looks it’s gross,” a fan wrote.

Following the conclusion of their campaigns at Roland Garros, Gauff and Sabalenka are set to begin their grass-court seasons at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open. This WTA 500 tournament is scheduled to take place from Jun. 16 to Jun. 22, 2025, on the outdoor grass courts of the Rot-Weiss Tennis Club in Berlin, Germany.
Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff To Begin Their Grass-Court Season at Berlin Tennis Open 2025
In 2024 in Berlin, Gauff entered the tournament as the top seed, beginning her campaign in the second round after a first-round bye. However, her run ended in the semifinals, where she lost to eventual champion Pegula, with a score of 5-7, 6(2)-7.
On the other hand, Sabalenka retired early in the quarterfinals in 2024, due to a shoulder injury, which exempted her from the 2024 Wimbledon Championships since the injury failed to recover on time. Safe to say, with her recent lacklustre comments about competitor Gauff and last year’s injury-laden performance, the Belarusian will have a point to prove.
Apart from Gauff and Sabalenka, the tournament will feature a strong lineup of players, including defending champion Jessica Pegula, Paula Badosa, Mirra Andreeva, Madison Keys, Elena Rybakina, and Zheng Qinwen, among others.
