Leylah Fernandez is experiencing a homecoming at the 2026 National Bank Open in Toronto, and she has some very special support cheering her on from the stands. As she defeated Mexico’s Renata Zarazúa in the Round of 64, her boyfriend, Canadian para ice hockey player Vincent Boily, took it to social media to show some love.

A few hours ago, Boily posted an Instagram story with a snap of Fernandez playing against Zarazúa, taken from the stands of the Center Court in Toronto, complete with a red heart emoji floating in the sky.

Fernandez, who typically keeps her private life out of the public eye, officially confirmed her romance with Boily in the spring of 2026. Following fan speculation that began during the previous US Open swing and Boily’s brief background appearance in a Charleston training video, the pair hard-launched their relationship during a trip to Italy.
Fernandez posted a series of photos of the couple visiting iconic landmarks in Rome, such as the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain. Boily commented “Bellissima” on the photos, and Fernandez sweetly replied with “Amore mio.”
Two weeks ago, Boily had posted pics attending the ESPYS alongside Fernandez as well.

Boily is a para ice hockey player for the Canadian national team. A former minor hockey player for the St-Eustache Vikings, his life took a dramatic turn in December 2017 when a snowmobile accident left him partially paralyzed. The 26-year-old didn’t give up, switching to para sports and finding his stride in sled hockey. He already has a decorated career, helping Canada win a gold medal at the 2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championships and a silver medal at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Paralympics.
Meanwhile, currently at World No. 34, Fernandez entered Toronto looking to turn her year around. The 23-year-old cruised into the third round of the singles draw with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-sets victory over Zarazua, and she is also playing the doubles with her younger sister, Bianca Jolie Fernandez.
This marks an exciting return for the duo, who reached the doubles semifinals at the 2024 Toronto tournament. They will play Elise Mertens and Diana Shnaider today, August 6, in the Round of 32. In the singles draw, Fernandez will face 2026 French Open champion Mirra Andreeva in the third round.
