Aryna Sabalenka Makes Her Feelings Known on João Fonseca’s Game

This year, Fonseca won five titles–four in singles and one in a team event. His singles victories included the 2025 Canberra Tennis International, Argentina Open, Arizona Tennis Classic, and Swiss Indoors. He also claimed the title at the Laver Cup with Team World.

In a recent interview with ESPN Brazil, Sabalenka praised Fonseca, calling him a “great guy” who plays “great tennis.” She suggested he should focus more on the physical side of his game to hit the ball harder.

The World No. 1 highlighted that Fonseca has a strong support team that will help him improve his game. She confidently stated that he will definitely break into the top 10 world rankings in the next few years.

“He’s a great guy, very nice, with great tennis. A very strong athlete. He definitely needs to work on the physical side of the game, adding other elements to hit the ball even harder. I feel he has a great team around him and is working on that difference. For sure, in a few years we will see him in the top 10,” Sabalenka said (translated from Portuguese).

Looking ahead, Fonseca is set to participate in the 2025 Miami Invitational alongside Carlos Alcaraz, Amanda Anisimova, and Jessica Pegula. The event is scheduled for December 8, 2025, at loanDepot Park.

Meanwhile, Sabalenka secured four titles this year: the Brisbane International, the Miami Open, the Madrid Open, and the US Open. She concluded her 2025 season as the runner-up to Elena Rybakina at the WTA Finals in Riyadh.

“I’m super happy to be heading back to Brisbane. I have a lot of great memories from Australia, it always feels like home. I enjoy playing at the Queensland Tennis Centre. I love the support and I hope it’s going to be on my side when the new season rolls around,” Sabalenka said.

The World No. 1 will begin her 2026 season at the Brisbane International, which will take place from January 4 to January 11, 2026, at the Queensland Tennis Centre in Brisbane, Australia. She will enter the tournament as the defending champion, having won the title in 2025 by defeating Polina Kudermetova in the final.
