Twenty-five American women are ready to make their mark at the 2025 US Open. With the singles main draw set after qualifiers wrapped up this week, these players are carrying the hopes of USA tennis fans heading into Sunday’s tournament start. The question everyone’s asking: can one of them follow in Coco Gauff’s footsteps and claim the September 6 final? It wasn’t that long ago when Gauff lifted the trophy in 2023, proving American tennis is very much alive.
How Many American Women Earned Seeds at This Year’s US Open?
The 145th edition of the US Open begins with serious American representation in the women’s draw. The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is hungry for another American female champion like Gauff delivered two years ago. This year, the women actually have one more seeded player than their male counterparts.

Seeded Players
Despite her shocking Wimbledon defeat, Coco Gauff maintained her No. 3 seed position. She trails No. 2 Iga Swiatek by less than 100 points, which means the 21-year-old could climb to World No. 2 depending on how she performs in New York.
Jessica Pegula sits right behind Gauff at No. 4, leading what’s become an impressive American takeover of the top 10. In total, American women occupy five of the top 10 spots. Madison Keys earned the No. 6 seed, trailing No. 5 Mirra Andreeva by less than 40 points. Amanda Anisimova secured the No. 8 seed, while Emma Navarro rounds out the top 10 at No. 10.
Further down the seeding list, Sofia Kenin claimed the No. 26 spot, with McCartney Kessler earning the lowest American seed at No. 32.
Qualifiers, Unseeded Players, and Wild Cards
Three American women fought their way through qualifying to reach the main draw. Hina Inoue, Claire Liu, and Katie Volynets each earned their spots through different paths. Volynets showed real grit, coming from one set down to beat Jana Fett 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 in the seventh qualifier. Meanwhile, Inoue cruised through the 15th qualifier without dropping a set, and Liu matched that performance in the 16th.
The unseeded American entries include Iva Jovic, Ana Li, Taylor Townsend, Alycia Parks, Hailey Baptiste, Peyton Stearns, Danielle Collins, Ashlyn Krueger, and Caroline Dolehide.
Like their male counterparts, the American women dominated the Wild Card selections, claiming six of the eight spots. Alyssa Ahn, Valerie Glozman, Caty McNally, Clervie Ngounoue, Julieta Pareja, and Venus Williams all received Wild Cards into the main draw.

Williams’ Wild Card entry stands out for obvious reasons. At 45, the two-time US Open champion faces a brutal first-round matchup against No. 11 Karolina Muchova. But if anyone can handle that challenge, Williams is hungry for more championship moments.
First-Round Opponents for American Women’s Seeds
The draw sets up some intriguing first-round matchups for the American seeds. In Section 2, No. 32 McCartney Kessler faces Magda Linette. No. 4 Jessica Pegula sits atop Section 3, where she’ll battle Mayar Sherif. Emma Navarro, seeded 14th, headlines Section 4 against Wang Yafan.
Madison Keys, the No. 6 seed, kicks off her campaign in Section 5 against Renata Zarazua. If Venus Williams somehow goes on the run of her life, there’s potential for an all-American showdown in the fourth round that would bring the house down.
The bottom half features some compelling American storylines as well. No. 3 Coco Gauff opens Section 6 against Ajla Tomljanovic, while No. 8 Amanda Anisimova takes on Kimberly Birrell in Section 7. That same section features four American players total, including an intriguing first-round clash between No. 26 Sofia Kenin and fellow American Ashlyn Krueger.
