Amanda Anisimova vs Liudmila Samsonova Preview

Amanda Anisimova will take on Liudmila Samsonova in the quarterfinals of the Berlin Tennis Open. Whoever out of the two wins, will take on either eighth seed Paula Badosa or Wang Xinyu in the semifinals of the WTA 500 event.

Anisimova has won 23 out of 33 matches so far in the 2025, winning her maiden WTA 1000 title at the Qatar Open. The 23-year-old reached her second final of the season at the Queen’s Club Championships last week, where she lost to Tatjana Maria. Anisimova started her campaign in Berlin with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bianca Andreescu before narrowly beating Magdalena Frech 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to book her place in the quarterfinals.

Liudmila Samsonova has also played 33 matches so far this season, winning 19 of them. The Russian’s notably performances in 2025 was reaching the final of the Internationaux de Strasbourg and the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

After a fourth-round appearance at the French Open, Samsonova started her grass swing at the Libéma Open, where she suffered an opening-round exit despite being the top seed. She has had two narrow escapes at the Berlin Tennis Open, where she edged out Naomi Osaka 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 before defeating defending champion Jessica Pegula 6-7(8), 7-5, 7-6(5). Samsonova saved a couple of match points against the American before edging her out in three hours and 26 minutes.

Amanda Anisimova vs Liudmila Samsonova Head-to-Head

Amanda Anisimova vs Liudmila Samsonova Prediction

Amanda Anisimova will enter the match as the favorite to win but Liudmila Samsonova will be high on confidence after beating Jessica Pegula. Not to forget, the Russian has a 23-13 win-loss record so far on grass, which is almost on par with the American’s 21-11 tally on the surface.

At Berlin, Anisimova has won 70 out of 100 points so far on her first serve, serving five aces. However, she also served seven double faults during the tournament, and will be careful not to produce too many of those. The American’s variety, hitting, and movement, will be crucial if she is to come out on top.

Samsonova’s serve is a crucial weapon for her, and she served 32 aces in her two matches so far in Berlin. The Russian will look to fetch as many free points as she can, but her serve will no doubt be put to test by Anisimova’s returning skills. She loves to play aggressively and will look to put the pressure on the American from the start of the match.

Both players have done well on grass before and the match promises to be an exciting one. While defeating Anisimova will not be an easy task, the Russian has a fair chance of coming out on top if she is able to maintain the resilience she showed against Jessica Pegula.

Prediction: Samsonova to win in three sets.
