de Minaur vs Davidovich Fokina Head-to-Head Record
These two have played out some entertaining matches over the years, with de Minaur leading the ATP Tour head-to-head 3-2. Their last meeting came in the final of the Citi DC Open, and the Australian pulled off a remarkable comeback by saving three match points. However, the Spaniard came out on top at their only meeting on clay so far (Monte-Carlo, 2021).
The year started well for de Minaur, but things have fizzled since his triumph in Rotterdam. The 27-year-old has won just 5 of his last 11 matches, with his clay-court win-loss record this year at 4-4.
The patchy run has left the world No. 9 struggling to find his form ahead of the French Open. He certainly doesn’t consider clay to be his favorite surface, but he will have taken some confidence from his 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Francisco Cerúndolo in the first round in Hamburg.
Davidovich Fokina has a strong clay-court record with a 53% win rate. The 2021 French Open quarterfinalist has yet to start firing on the red dirt this year, but did showcase his composure to win a tense first-round match against Corentin Moutet.
The Spaniard saved 13 break points and landed his first serve 77% of the time in that match, and that consistency could serve him well at Roland Garros.
de Minaur vs Davidovich Fokina Prediction and Pick
With both players still looking to find their groove on clay, this match could well go down to the wire. The head-to-head lead and ranking advantage will give de Minaur confidence in his ability to defeat Davidovich Fokina again on Wednesday. But questions remain over his ability to compete at the top level on clay.
Davidovich Fokina has never won an ATP Tour title but remains a very difficult player to beat, especially on clay. He is a former finalist at the Monte-Carlo Masters and will be eager to defeat de Minaur to gain a measure of revenge after how their last meeting panned out.

Despite his clay-court woes, de Minaur is having the better season and would have gained plenty of confidence after defeating Cerúndolo in the last round. We believe that he will edge past Davidovich Fokina in what could well be another tight contest.
Pick – de Minaur in three sets.
