After winning her fourth career WTA Tour title at the 2025 China Open, Amanda Anisimova withdrew from the Wuhan Open. This decision came just one day after she stated that she was not suffering from any “serious” injury.
In Beijing, Anisimova was seeded third and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She defeated Katie Boulter, wild card Zhang Shuai, and 13th seed Karolína Muchová in the second, third, and fourth rounds, respectively.
In the quarterfinals, the 24-year-old overcame sixth seed Jasmine Paolini and then secured her place in the final by eliminating the defending champion, second seed Coco Gauff, in the semifinals. In the championship match, Anisimova defeated 26th seed Linda Nosková with a scoreline of 6-0, 2-6, 6-2, claiming her second WTA 1000 title.
What Did Amanda Anisimova Reveal About Her Injury After Winning the China Open?
Following her victory over Nosková at the China Open, during the post-match press conference, Anisimova revealed that she had been experiencing pain in her foot and calf since her third-round match in the tournament.
“I was having pain in my foot and in my calf like more into the third round. I think it was obvious in one of the matches where I was in pain. I was just hurting all day when I was walking,” Anisimova said.
Anisimova mentioned that she was still in some pain, but emphasized that it was “nothing serious” and that this discomfort would not prevent her from playing for the rest of the season.
“I’m still having a bit of pain, but it’s nothing serious. It’s just like annoying aches and pains. The good thing at the end of the day is it’s nothing that would limit me or prevent me to keep playing for the rest of the season,” she added.
However, just a day after declaring that, Anisimova withdrew from the 2025 Wuhan Open, citing a calf injury. The WTA 1000 hard court tournament began on October 6, 2025, and will run until October 12, 2025. Matches are being held on outdoor hard courts at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center in Wuhan, China.

Anisimova has been replaced by compatriot Iva Jovic, who entered the tournament as a lucky loser. Jovic will face Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro in her opening match, with the winner advancing to compete against either Maya Joint or qualifier Kateřina Siniaková in the third round.
