Amanda Anisimova’s Revelations About Her China Open Injury

In her post-match press conference, Anisimova said that she felt pain throughout the tournament to the extent that she considered pulling out. The American stated that she had pain in her foot and calf and that it was evident in one of her matches.

“Yeah, I mean, I was having pain in my foot and in my calf like more into the third round. I think it was obvious in one of the matches where I was in pain. I was just hurting all day when I was walking. I’m still having a bit of pain, but it’s nothing serious. It’s just like annoying aches and pains,” the 24-year-old said.

“The good thing at the end of the day is it’s nothing that would limit me or prevent me to keep playing for the rest of the season,” she added.

Anisimova On Her Upcoming Schedule After China Open Triumph

The American was also asked if her schedule was affected by the fitness issues she faced during the China Open. She said that as of now, her plans remained what they were.

“Right now my schedule remains. I haven’t really talked much about the schedule or haven’t had many conversations with my team. As of now, that still remains the same,” Anisimova said.

The World No. 4 entered the China Open a few weeks following her heartbreaking defeat at the US Open final that left her in tears. She received a bye to the second round and started her campaign with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Katie Boulter. Anisimova continued her run by beating Zhang Shuai 7-6(11), 6-0. She then came back from a set down to beat 13th seed Karolína Muchová 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 and reach the quarterfinals.

Here, Anisimova once again made a comeback to triumph 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4 over sixth seed Jasmine Paolini to set up a semifinal clash with defending champion Coco Gauff. The 24-year-old put on a dominant display to defeat her compatriot 6-1, 6-2 and reach the final in Beijing.

Here, Anisimova faced 26th seed Linda Nosková and got off to a flyer by taking the opening set 6-0. However, the Czech bounced back and took the second set 6-2 to force the match into a decider. Anisimova dominated the last set to register a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 win and seal her second WTA 1000 title of 2025.

The World No. 4 is next scheduled to compete at the Ningbo Open that starts following the conclusion of the Wuhan Open.
