How Paula Badosa, Iva Jovic, and Others Reacted to Alexandra Eala’s Berlin Run

Eala is making waves during the grass-court season. She kicked off the swing by clinching her second WTA 125 title at the Birmingham Open, beating Nikola Bartůňková 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 in the final. After losing to Iva Jovic in the second round of the Queen’s Club Championships, the 21-year-old bounced back strongly at the Berlin Tennis Open.

Eala opened her campaign with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Queen’s Club champion Donna Vekić. She then defeated No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina 7-5, 6-4 before sealing a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 6 seed Elina Svitolina. However, the Filipina’s fairytale run ended in the semifinals, as No. 8 seed Linda Nosková triumphed 6-2, 6-4 to book her place in the final.

Reflecting on the “special” experience, Eala shared a heartfelt message on Instagram alongside highlights from her memorable journey.

“Can’t begin to describe all the emotions I’ve experienced this week, my heart is full! I am forever GRATEFUL 💚 Berlin, you are so so special, thank you!” she captioned her Instagram post.

Eala was flooded with support from her fellow players in the comments, as Paula Badosa, Iva Jovic, Eva Lys, and Zeynep Sönmez displayed their appreciation with touching reactions.

Alexandra Eala is set for a swift turnaround after her Berlin Tennis Open exit, as she shifts focus to the Bad Homburg Open in the lead-up to Wimbledon. She will lock horns with Elise Mertens in the first round scheduled for Monday, June 22. The Filipina has also formed an exciting doubles partnership with Venus Williams for the WTA 500 event.

Joining their close friend Eala in action at the Bad Homburg Open are Lys and Jovic. Lys is set to face Emma Navarro in a highly anticipated first-round showdown, while Jovic will take on Wang Xinyu.

In other developments, Badosa has withdrawn from the qualifying draw of the same tournament due to a leg injury. Meanwhile, Sönmez will square off against Elsa Jacquemot in the qualifiers of the Eastbourne Open.
