Alexander Zverev Opens Up on Fatherhood Ahead of Mexican Open Campaign

Leading up to the Mexican Open, Zverev competed at the 2026 Australian Open, where he triumphed over Gabriel Diallo, Alexandre Müller, Cameron Norrie, Francisco Cerúndolo, and Learner Tien, before losing in the semifinals to the eventual champion, Carlos Alcaraz.

Zverev has won the Mexican Open in both singles and doubles. He won the tournament in 2021 by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. He also finished as the runner-up in 2019, losing to Nick Kyrgios in the championship match. In the doubles event in 2019, Zverev partnered with his brother, Mischa Zverev, and they triumphed over Austin Krajicek and Artem Sitak in the final.

This year, Zverev is the top seed at the Mexican Open and will begin his campaign against Corentin Moutet in the first round. In a pre-tournament interview with ATP Media, Zverev discussed having Mayla on tour with him, revealing that she has been accompanying him to several tournaments since last year.

The former World No. 2 said he wants to keep Mayla out of the “spotlight,” so she can grow up like a “normal child” with a “normal life.” He also mentioned his efforts to keep her out of social media, noting that it has been “nice” for her to join him on tour.

“I try to keep her away from the spotlight. I want her to be a normal child, growing up with a normal life. I try to keep her out of social media, all the Instagrammie stuff. It’s nice that she comes more and more,” Zverev said.

As for Zverev’s first-round singles match against Moutet at the 2026 Mexican Open, the two players have faced each other twice on the ATP Tour, with the German winning both encounters. Their most recent match was in the round of 16 of the 2025 China Open, where Zverev defeated Moutet 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. The winner of the first-round match between Zverev and Moutet will advance to face Miomir Kecmanović in the second round of the tournament.

In addition to his singles campaign, Zverev will also compete in the doubles event alongside Marcelo Melo, and they will take on the pair of Santiago González and David Pel in the first round.
