Coco Gauff and Jannik Sinner have both touched down in Beijing ahead of the 2025 China Open. Gauff arrives as the reigning women’s singles champion, aiming to defend the title she claimed in 2024.
Sinner arrived earlier after finishing runner-up in last year’s tournament, eager to go further. Both players will begin their campaigns at the National Tennis Center, where fans await their first matches on the hard courts, setting the stage for another thrilling week of competition.
What Would Coco Gauff and Jannik Sinner be Aiming for at the China Open 2025?
Sinner landed in Beijing earlier this Saturday ahead of the 2025 China Open, marking his first tournament since losing the US Open final to Carlos Alcaraz two weeks ago.
Gauff has also reached Beijing, with the China Open’s official Instagram account confirming her arrival. The post showed Gauff at the airport, waving to the camera with the caption “@cocogauff has arrived in Beijing! ✈️ All set for the #2025ChinaOpen 🎾 #allforpassion.”

Both players carry heavy expectations given their performance level. Gauff claimed her first China Open title in 2024, beating Karolína Muchová 6-1, 6-3 in a dominant final performance. The American became the youngest China Open winner in 14 years and the second American woman to lift the trophy after Serena Williams.
Sinner won the China Open in 2023, defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final. However, Alcaraz denied him back-to-back titles in 2024, beating the Italian 6-7(6-8), 6-4, 7-6(7-3) in an epic final.
This tournament marks Gauff’s first appearance since her disappointing fourth-round exit at the US Open. She lost to Naomi Osaka 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets, ending her hopes of defending her 2023 US Open crown. The defeat left Gauff visibly upset as she struggled with unforced errors throughout the match.

For Sinner, this is his first tournament since falling to Alcaraz in the US Open final 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The loss cost him his world No. 1 ranking, which he had held for 65 weeks, while Alcaraz reclaimed the top spot with his sixth Grand Slam title.
The tennis world has high expectations for both past champions. Gauff and Sinner are among the sport’s biggest young stars, and fans will be watching closely to see how they respond to their US Open setbacks.
Several notable withdrawals have affected the tournament field. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka pulled out due to a minor injury sustained during her US Open title run. She won her second straight US Open crown but will miss Beijing as she focuses on recovery.
With Sabalenka absent, Iga Świątek is the top seed in the women’s field. Other top players, including Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva, and Madison Keys, will join the 2023 China Open champion.
Sinner heads the men’s field despite losing his No. 1 ranking. He will compete with Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur, and Lorenzo Musetti. Alcaraz is not defending his title but giving others a chance to claim the crown.
The China Open runs from September 24 to October 5 at Beijing’s National Tennis Center. Both Gauff and Sinner will be looking to put their US Open disappointments behind them and lift the trophy on Beijing’s hard courts.
