7 Players, Featuring Ben Shelton and Carlos Alcaraz, Who Walked Away With Masters 1000 Trophies in 2025

The 2025 ATP Masters 1000 season brought excitement and breakthrough moments across nine elite tournaments. Different players stepped up at different times to claim their place among tennis’s highest honors. From first-time winners to established stars, the year showcased the depth and talent within men’s professional tennis at its peak. These champions proved their ability to compete at the highest level and deliver when it mattered most.

    1) Jack Draper – Indian Wells

Jack Draper began 2025 with a commanding victory at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, defeating Holger Rune 6-2, 6-2 in the final. The British player’s dominant performance lasted just over an hour and announced his arrival among tennis’s elite competitors.

At 23 years old, Draper claimed his first Masters 1000 title with a clean and controlled display that justified his high seeding at the event. His breakthrough victory launched him into the top ten and marked a significant milestone in his professional career. He became only the second British winner at Indian Wells, following Cameron Norrie’s triumph in 2021.

    2) Jakub Menšík – Miami

The Miami Open final delivered one of 2025’s biggest surprises when 19-year-old Jakub Menšík defeated his idol, Novak Djokovic, 7-6(4), 7-6(4) in a thrilling match. The encounter was delayed nearly six hours due to rain, but Menšík displayed exceptional composure and aggression throughout the contest.

Menšík’s powerful serve and attacking tennis overwhelmed Djokovic in both tiebreaks to secure his first Masters 1000 title. The victory prevented Djokovic from reaching his 100th career title and established Menšík as one of tennis’s rising talents. At such a young age, the Czech player became only the first from his country since Tomáš Berdych in 2005 to claim a Masters 1000 trophy.

    3) Carlos Alcaraz – Monte Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati

Carlos Alcaraz dominated the 2025 Masters 1000 season by winning three of the year’s most prestigious tournaments. The Spanish World No. 2 first captured his sixth Masters 1000 title at Monte Carlo by defeating Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in a commanding performance. Although Musetti suffered a leg injury during the third set, Alcaraz demonstrated the exceptional clay-court form that has made him one of the sport’s most dangerous competitors on any surface.

Just weeks later, Alcaraz claimed his second Masters 1000 title of the season at the Italian Open, defeating Jannik Sinner 7-6(5), 6-1 in a final that showcased complete dominance on clay. Alcaraz proved particularly ruthless in the second set, breaking down Sinner’s game completely despite his opponent’s excellent form heading into the match.

Later in the season, Alcaraz added his third Masters 1000 crown by winning the Cincinnati Open when Sinner retired from the final. These victories solidified Alcaraz’s status as the sport’s elite player and led to the World No. 1 rankings after the US Open win.

    4) Casper Ruud – Madrid

After years of frustration at the biggest tournaments, Casper Ruud finally achieved a breakthrough by winning his first Masters 1000 title at the Madrid Open. The Norwegian defeated Jack Draper 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in a tightly contested final that required all his mental strength and experience. Ruud had previously lost six finals at Masters 1000 and Grand Slam events before finally claiming the trophy in Madrid.

He displayed remarkable composure by rallying from 5-3 down in the first set to secure the victory when it mattered most. This historic win made Ruud the first Norwegian man to claim a Masters 1000 title, and the achievement boosted him back into the top ten rankings.

    5) Ben Shelton – Toronto

Ben Shelton won his first Masters 1000 title at the Canadian Open in Toronto with a thrilling victory over Karen Khachanov 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(3) in the final. The 22-year-old American’s composure under pressure was evident throughout the tournament as he won three third-set tiebreaks on his path to the title. Shelton demonstrated remarkable mental strength by rallying from 0-40 down in the second set to hold serve at a crucial moment.

His exceptional performance in tiebreakers proved he had the mental resilience to compete with the world’s best players. The victory made Shelton the youngest American Masters 1000 champion since Andy Roddick won Miami in 2004, marking a significant achievement in his rising career.

    6) Valentin Vacherot – Shanghai

Vacherot pulled off a stunning upset at the Shanghai Masters by claiming his first ATP Masters 1000 title as a qualifier. The French player defeated his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in the final to become only the second qualifier ever to win a Masters 1000 event. Vacherot’s remarkable run through the draw showcased his resilience and determination despite entering the tournament with a lower seeding.

The triumph marked an incredible achievement in Vacherot’s career and provided him with significant ranking points and credibility among elite players.

    7) Jannik Sinner – Paris

Jannik Sinner claimed his first Masters 1000 title of 2025 at the Paris Masters by defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6 without losing a single set throughout the entire tournament. The Italian’s dominant performance underscored his reputation as the world’s best indoor player and came at a critical moment in the season. Sinner’s victory was particularly impressive given the obstacles he had overcome earlier in 2025, including injuries and a suspension that threatened his career momentum.

His triumph at Paris marked a triumphant comeback and provided him with the boost he needed as he pursued the World No. 1 ranking. The title demonstrated Sinner’s resilience and ability to deliver his best tennis when the stakes were highest.
