3 Unseeded Women’s Players No One Would Want To Face at Wimbledon 2025 ft. Marketa Vondrousova

With the 2025 Wimbledon Championships on the horizon, here is a look at the top three unseeded women in the tournament.

The participants’ list for the 2025 Wimbledon Championships was released recently, and the women’s draw promises to be one to watch. It features top seeds including World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, last year’s finalist Jasmine Paolini, and defending champion Barbora KrejÄŤĂková.

However, tennis is often full of surprises, with high-potential unseeded players eager to make their mark in such big tournaments. Several unseeded players could pose serious threats at the grass-court Major, making the road more challenging for the top seeds.

Marketa Vondrousova, One of the Notable Unseeded Players at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships

Marketa Vondrousova is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous unseeded players heading into the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. The Czech boasts proven success at SW19, having captured the title in 2023 as the first unseeded woman. She can make another deep run this year with that experience and her unique skill set.

Vondrousova’s title defense ended in the opening round last year, mainly due to a leg injury sustained in Berlin before that, which hampered her run on grass. Additionally, she has spent much of the past 18 months dealing with injuries, including a recent shoulder surgery.

This season, however, Vondrousova has rediscovered her form on grass, claiming the WTA 500 title in Berlin with impressive wins over reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed at Wimbledon. The crafty left-hander, famous for her slices, lobs, and drop shots, leapt to No. 73 in the WTA rankings following her Berlin triumph and appears determined to win a second Grand Slam title.

Tatjana Maria, another Unpredictable Threat at Wimbledon 2025

Germany’s Tatjana Maria is another unseeded contender who could trouble the top seeds at the Wimbledon Championships. The 37-year-old has already proven her pedigree at the London Major with a remarkable semifinal run in 2022, achieved without being seeded.

Although Maria’s performances at the SW19 have declined since 2022, her recent resurgence on grass could boost her confidence. She won the Queen’s Club title as a qualifier, defeating four top-20 players like Muchova, Rybakina, Anisimova, and Keys. She also became the oldest player to win a WTA 500 event and the first woman in 52 years to lift the Queen’s Club trophy, also her second title on the surface.

Despite an early exit in Bad Homburg, Maria’s experience and clever style of play, including sharp slices, drop shots, and regular net approaches, could prove effective. The German holds a 66.09% win rate on grass, her highest across all surfaces, and will be eager to build on that at the season’s third Major.

Emma Raducanu Heads Into the 2025 Wimbledon Championships as a Compelling Unseeded Threat

After an underwhelming clay-court season, Emma Raducanu made a strong start to her grass campaign at the Queen’s Club Championships, reaching the quarterfinals with straight-set wins over Cristina Bucsa and Rebecca Šramková. China’s Zheng Qinwen ended her run in the last eight, but the performance marked a promising return to form on home soil.

Raducanu couldn’t carry her momentum into Eastbourne, where she suffered a second-round loss, with a back spasm raising fitness concerns. However, she has a decent track record at Wimbledon, having reached the fourth round twice in her three appearances. At No. 38 in the WTA rankings, Raducanu remains one of the top-ranked unseeded players at this year’s Championships.

If the Brit overcomes her fitness concerns and regains her form, she can enjoy a strong run at Wimbledon. Her flat groundstrokes and solid baseline play suit the surface well, and the backing of the home crowd could give her a much-needed edge in the tournament.
