NFL Rumors: Teams ‘Expected To Have Interest In’ Bill Belichick During 2026 Coaching Cycle

Bill Belichick rumored to be gaining interest for the 2026 NFL coaching carousel, with the Giants and Titans currently having vacancies.

Bill Belichick is undoubtedly one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. This made it surprising that he didn’t land another pro job after he parted ways with the New England Patriots. A recent report suggested that this could change in the upcoming offseason as several teams are rumored to be interested in him.

Bill Belichick Rumored To Be a Target in 2026 NFL Coaching Cycle

Belichick won six Super Bowl rings and nine AFC Championships during his legendary run as the head coach of the New England Patriots. When he parted ways with the franchise, many around the league assumed another NFL team would quickly hire him, but it didn’t work out that way.

He instead took a job in college football with the North Carolina Tar Heels and has remained there ever since. He apparently could be in the mix to land one of the NFL vacancies during the 2026 cycle, according to a recent report from Josina Anderson.

“I’m told ‘at least two NFL teams’ are still expected to have interest in talking to Bill Belichick, behind-the-scenes, at the very least, about head coach jobs this Carousel season, per a league source. ‘A third team could also enter the mix,’ with desires to talk, particularly if one specific personnel change is made under ownership, the source added,” reported Anderson.

Her report of two teams rumored to be interested in the legendary head coach is interesting, especially considering there are currently only two vacancies. The Tennessee Titans and New York Giants are the only two teams to have already fired their head coaches during the 2025 NFL season so far.

Belichick has an obvious connection to the Giants as he previously served as their defensive coordinator under head coach Bill Parcells. Anderson didn’t mention specific teams in her report, and even suggested that a third team could be in the mix. However, if the rumors are accurate, New York would be a realistic candidate to be one of them.

The Giants fired Brian Daboll this year and named Mike Kafka their interim head coach amid another disappointing season. They have plenty of young talent on their roster that may be intriguing to someone like Belichick, who would presumably prefer to join a potential contender rather than a rebuilding project.

Most notably, they already appear to have their quarterback in Jaxson Dart, who has been having an excellent rookie season. He currently ranks 12th on PFSN’s Impact Rankings among all quarterbacks this year. While this is nothing more than a rumor at this time, he could play a significant role in filling their current vacancy at head coach, theoretically with an absolute legend.
