‘His Name Is Bigger Than His Game’ — Super Bowl Champion Dismisses Giants’ Interest in Odell Beckham Jr. Reunion

It's been a while since Odell Beckham Jr.'s name was talked about but could the former OROY make a comeback with the Giants?

Odell Beckham Jr.’s name has been circulating around the New York Giants media recently, and that brings up the question: Could a reunion be in store?

The veteran was one of the best players in the NFL during his prime and made New York must-watch TV. However, injuries got the best of his unbelievable talent, and his career quickly went downhill. Will we see a return from the former Offensive Rookie of the Year?

LeSean McCoy Gives Harsh Reality On Chances of Odell Beckham Jr.’s Reunion With Giants

Beckham had about as good a start to his NFL career as one could hope for. The Giants receiver put together back-to-back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and made the Pro Bowl each year.

And he came down with what will be remembered as one of, if not the, greatest catches of all time.

However, injuries riddled the final eight years of his career. Beckham played in just four games in 2017 (his fourth year in the league) before making a comeback for another back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2018 and 2019.

Then, injuries hit again, and Beckham never eclipsed 565 yards in a single season after that.

The former LSU standout didn’t play last season and had just nine catches for 55 yards in 2024, but his name has resurfaced in talks with the Giants.

However, Super Bowl champion LeSean McCoy doesn’t think there’s any merit to Beckham actually being an option in New York. He spoke about it on the show “Speakeasy.”

“I think football is much better when Odell Beckham Jr. is in the league,” McCoy said. “Just from his play and his excitement as a player and then as a fan. But, I don’t think we’ll see him this season on the Giants… I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I think Harbaugh’s playing the media the right way, saying the right things, but he’s not looking to do that. They got a wide receiver in the third round this year.”

According to PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric, the Giants’ offense ranked 24th in the league last year. However, that was mainly due to injuries, and they will be better this year. As McCoy said, they also drafted a receiver, Malachi Fields, in the third round, who is expected to improve the unit.

“This is a young man’s game,” he added. “Odell’s getting older, and he’s been hurt.”

Then, McCoy went a step further to say he doesn’t expect Beckham to ever play in the NFL again. Which doesn’t seem like a far-fetched thought (since he’s been out of the league for a year), but it’s still sad to think that a player who could have been one of the best will be hanging up his cleats for good.

“I don’t know if we’ll ever see him back in another uniform, to be honest with you,” McCoy said. “The few years he played, the Dolphins… the Ravens, we didn’t really see much. I think right now, his name is bigger than his game. I mean, we all go through this stuff. We all go through this when we get older and there’s injuries.”

“Odell is one of those cases where you look at it like, ‘Damn.’ When I look at (Derrick) Rose, I wish he never got hurt. When I look at Odell, I wish he never woulda got hurt, because Odell was somethin’ special.”

Beckham, in his prime, was a player who took over the league and had the next generation of football fans invested every time he played. Young fans and athletes would be practicing one-handed catches in the backyard.

But all good things come to an end eventually, and Beckham’s time on the field may be winding down.
