Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones Makes Feelings Clear on Micah Parsons’ Future in Dallas Amid Contract Uncertainty

Dallas Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones discusses Micah Parsons' future with the franchise amid ongoing contract negotiations.

Micah Parsons has been among the best pass rushers in the NFL since the Dallas Cowboys selected him 12th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. While he has continuously produced on the field and become one of the biggest stars in the sport off of it, he has yet to reach a contract extension with the franchise ahead of the final year of his rookie deal.

Meanwhile, the pass-rusher market has been reset after Maxx Crosby and Myles Garrett each signed record-setting extensions. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones recently weighed in on the ongoing contract negotiations.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones Discusses Micah Parsons Extension Talks

Micah Parsons has not signed a contract extension and some reports have suggested that he has not even received an offer. Despite this, he was on hand as the Dallas Cowboys began their voluntary offseason workout program Monday.

Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan the following day, where he discussed the ongoing contract discussions. Jon Machota of The Athletic shared his comments, tweeting:

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan when asked about Micah Parsons’ contract negotiations: “We’re gonna spend to the cap year in and year out. Over the course of time, we’re gonna spend our money to try to get as many good players as we can. That’s the art of the deal.”

Dallas’ defense took a major step back in 2024 as Parsons missed four games. They ranked just 31st in scoring defense and 28th in yards allowed after ranking fifth in each category the previous season. PFN’s Defense+ metric rated the unit 25th last season.

Despite battling injuries and failing to make an All-Pro team for the first time in his four-year career, Parsons turned in another strong season. He recorded 12.0 sacks and likely would have set a career high if not for the time he missed. His 52.5 sacks in the past four seasons are the fifth most in the NFL over that span.

While there have been pundits that have suggested Parsons should request a trade, ultimately, it appears likely that the two sides will be able to reach a deal.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones recently revealed that he met with the star pass rusher and the two sides reached an agreement on the length, guaranteed money and overall money in the contract.

Jones noted that they still need to work out the finer details. However, Parsons’ presence at the voluntary offseason workout program bodes well for those hoping for him to remain in Dallas.
