New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been a solid target for quarterback Drake Maye this season. On Thursday night, the 8-2 Patriots hosted the 2-7 New York Jets at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
The Patriots jumped out to a 14-7 lead and were moving the ball downfield against the Jets’ defense. Diggs, who had three catches for 16 yards through most of the first half, appeared to get injured.
What Happened To Stefon Diggs?
Diggs got open downfield for Maye, but couldn’t catch the pass. When the star wideout fell down to the turf, it looked like he grabbed the lower right side of his back.
The pass was Maye’s first incomplete one in the game. As it was a third-down play, the Patriots punted the ball back to the Jets.

Physical therapist Jeff Mueller was watching the Jets-Patriots game and posted on X, “Looked like Stefon Diggs took a knee directly into his right hip on that last play. He limped off slowly. Concern for hip contusion. Can probably play through it but depends on how painful it is and how much it swells/stiffens as the game goes on. Cold game too.”
In a follow-up report on Diggs’ condition from Mike Reiss of ESPN NFL Nation, “WR Stefon Diggs walked slowly to the sideline after that third-down play but didn’t require/receive any additional medical attention. He is sitting in his regular spot on the bench alongside teammates.”
Fortunately for the Patriots, Diggs was back on the field for the Patriots’ next drive. According to PFSN’s WR Impact, Diggs is currently ranked #8 among the receivers in the league. He has an impact score of 86.0 and is graded B.

Fantasy Impact of Diggs’ Injury
Diggs has been the most reliable fantasy option amongst the Patriots’ wide receivers. With Kayshon Boutte out, Drake Maye needs Diggs more than ever. If Diggs can’t return, DeMario Douglas might finally play more than 30% of the snaps with Mack Hollins continuing to operate as the primary X receiver.
Boutte felt like he was close to returning tonight. He will probably be back next week. If Diggs has to miss an extended period of time, Hollins would continue to be startable. He and Boutte would likely be the guys in two receiver sets, with Douglas mixing in when they use 11 personnel.
