The Pittsburgh Steelers are making some shocking moves this offseason. They landed quarterback Aaron Rodgers on June 5 and are now bringing in reinforcements for the legendary quarterback.
The Steelers signed wide receiver DK Metcalf and cornerback Darius Slay in March. Once they ensured that Rodgers was onboard, the Steelers went berserk. The team announced two huge signings on Monday, which include a 29-touchdown playmaker.
Steelers Trade for Star Tight End As Pittsburgh Chases Seventh Super Bowl
The Steelers spiced up the offseason by engaging in a groundbreaking trade with the Miami Dolphins. The Steelers sent safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a late-round draft pick to acquire CB Jalen Ramsey and a former third-round pick.
As per Adam Schefter, the Steelers have traded their 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for tight end Jonnu Smith. The 29-year-old will get a one-year contract extension for $12 million, keeping him with the Steelers through the 2026 season.

Smith will join a TE room that has Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, and Connor Heyward. He is likely to take the secondary role behind Freiermuth. The 2024 Pro Bowler will reunite with Arthur Smith, who was the Titans’ offensive coordinator when the tight end was in Tennessee.
It’s the fourth team for Smith in the past four years. After getting drafted by the Titans as the 100th overall pick in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Smith hauled in 114 passes for 1,302 yards and 16 touchdowns (including a career-high eight TD final season) in four years.
Smith joined the New England Patriots for the next two seasons, racking up 55 passes for 539 yards and only one touchdown in two years. The Patriots traded him to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round pick in March 2023.
He started in 6 out of 17 games and recorded his then-career high of 50 receptions for 582 yards and three touchdowns. The Falcons released Smith at the end of the season.
Smith inked a two-year contract with the Dolphins in March 2024 and enjoyed the best season of his career. He charted 88 catches for 884 yards and eight touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl appearance.
Having improved on both sides of the ball, the Steelers are looking to build on their back-to-back 10-7 seasons. Last season marked the first time Pittsburgh had a positive point differential since 2020, when the team went 12-4. Now, with a much more talented quarterback and an even stronger defensive presence, they’re looking to build on that +33 point differential.
