Steelers Projected To Draft KC Concepcion To Form Scary Trio With DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr.

The Steelers are projected to draft KC Concepcion to complete a WR trio with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. as the team's offense evolves.

Pittsburgh has already reshaped its offense this offseason, adding size and physicality at wide receiver.

What’s still missing is a true slot presence who can create space and win in tight spaces.

Why the Steelers Could Target Texas A&M Slot Weapon KC Concepcion

The Steelers have a strong track record when drafting wide receivers. One recent mock draft points to how they could address that position successfully again.

PFSN’s Alec Elijah projected the Steelers to select Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion with the No. 21 overall pick in PFSN’s latest three-round mock draft.

Elijah wrote:

“Reworking the offense has clearly been a priority for Pittsburgh this offseason, with the additions of Michael Pittman Jr. and Rico Dowdle signaling a shift toward more balance and playmaking. Still, even after those moves, one key piece remains missing: an explosive, dynamic presence in the slot. That lingering need could put Texas A&M’s KC Concepcion firmly in play as the next piece to the Steelers puzzle.

“Concepcion brings a unique, multi-dimensional skill set that goes beyond the traditional receiver role. With a background as a running back, he offers true ‘chess piece’ potential, capable of lining up all over the formation and creating mismatches in a variety of ways.

“Pairing him with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. could give Pittsburgh a well-rounded, dangerous receiving corps that blends size, physicality, and speed. If the Steelers are serious about modernizing their offense, adding a weapon like Concepcion could be the move that ties everything together.”

That projection lines up with how Pittsburgh’s offense is being built.

Metcalf and Pittman give the Steelers two physical receivers who can win outside and handle volume. What the offense still lacks is movement and unpredictability, especially in the middle of the field. That is where Concepcion fits.

Concepcion holds an 86.92 PFSN grade, ranks No. 29 overall, and is the No. 4 receiver in the class. His breakout freshman season at NC State included 1,159 yards from scrimmage and a major share of the offense.

At 6-foot, 196 pounds, he wins with quickness and what he does after the catch. That kind of versatility is what Pittsburgh’s offense currently lacks.

How Aaron Rodgers’ Decision Impacts the Steelers’ Draft Strategy

The offense’s direction still runs through the quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers has not made a final decision about his future, leaving the Steelers in a holding pattern. He finished last season with a 71.4 grade in PFSN’s Quarterback Impact Metric, showing he can still operate at a starting level.

Pittman suggested his expectation is that Rodgers will keep playing. But that uncertainty shapes how Pittsburgh approaches the draft.

Adding a player like Concepcion is not just about long-term upside. It gives the offense another way to function, whether Rodgers returns or the team turns to a younger option.

Pittsburgh has leaned into physicality at receiver this offseason. Concepcion would add something different: a player who can create space and stress defenses underneath.

The Steelers have found success drafting wide receivers before. This would be another swing at finding a star.
