The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into the 2025 season making a final push to win a Super Bowl in their current window, bringing in Aaron Rodgers as the missing piece to elevate the offense and potentially lead the team on a deep playoff run, something they haven’t achieved since the 2016 season.
With the season approaching, the roster is mostly set, but there’s still a chance for a last-minute move that could give Rodgers one of the NFL’s most exciting wide receiver groups. Here’s what that move could look like for the Steelers.
Steelers Predicted To Trade For WR Terry McLaurin
McLaurin’s contract situation with the Washington Commanders has reached a boiling point. The wide receiver has officially requested a trade after a long offseason of stalled negotiations and growing frustration with how the franchise handled his extension talks, making little effort to show his value.
While the exact number McLaurin is asking for is unclear, he’s believed to be seeking over $30 million per year, a figure already earned by nine wide receivers and one he believes matches his on-field production.
If Washington does decide to move on from their top receiver, one of the most intriguing landing spots would be the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are still looking for a playmaker to pair with DK Metcalf after trading away George Pickens earlier this offseason.
“Pittsburgh currently holds just under $18 million in cap space, meaning general manager Omar Khan would likely need to add a player in the deal,” Alex Hanczar wrote. “However, Khan has already made massive moves this offseason, so McLaurin to Pittsburgh may not be out of the question.”

The Steelers already pulled off a major trade followed by a big-money extension earlier this offseason. The team gave up a 2025 second-round pick to land DK Metcalf and signed him to a four-year, $132 million deal.
The connection between McLaurin and Rodgers could turn into one of the league’s best. While Metcalf would serve as the physical target, McLaurin would be the deep threat and reliable hands Rodgers has long craved.
Depending on Washington’s stance, a trade for McLaurin could come at a similar price, possibly even a first-round pick. As for the contract, Pittsburgh would likely need to meet McLaurin’s salary demands to avoid any prolonged holdout and ensure he’s fully committed from day one.
The entire situation surrounding McLaurin feels unusual, especially considering the franchise just found its quarterback of the future in Jaden Daniels and will benefit from his rookie contract for at least the next three seasons.
That setup made it seem likely that McLaurin and the team would strike a deal early in the offseason. But when that didn’t happen, McLaurin grew frustrated and requested a trade. There are expected to be many teams trying to trade for him, and the Steelers should be in the mix as strong buyers.
