Steelers Set To Hire Super Bowl Champion HC As Mike Tomlin’s Replacement

The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced who they will be hiring as their new head coach after Mike Tomlin's departure.

It’s a new era in Pittsburgh. After 19 long years with Mike Tomlin at the helm, the Steelers will have a new man in charge. The AFC North franchise doesn’t mess around when it comes to hiring coaches, and they’ve got a Super Bowl-winning coach to take them into the future.

Pittsburgh Steelers Make Their Hire

The Steelers are hiring Mike McCarthy to be their next head coach. McCarthy is one of the more experienced head coaches on the market, and Pittsburgh wanted him. This is close to home for McCarthy, who grew up in Pittsburgh and has been a lifelong fan of the franchise.

Now, he’s got the opportunity to bring his team back to the glory that he experienced firsthand growing up.

After a year off, McCarthy is back as a head coach and will have to get back to work to turn this franchise around. They’ve been stuck in mediocrity, unable to find a way out. Pittsburgh is hoping the new voice will change its fortunes.

The Steelers haven’t got it done in the playoffs. They’ve lost their last seven straight games in the postseason, and their Super Bowl triumph seems like forever ago. Many of the failures have come from their lack of an answer at quarterback. They’ve tried Kenny Pickett, Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, and even Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers helped lead their offense to 14th in PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric, their best since Ben Roethlisberger’s final years.

Rodgers said he would be open to another season with Pittsburgh. Without Tomlin, the chance of the veteran quarterback returning plummeted. Now, they’ve resurrected because Rodgers and McCarthy won a Super Bowl together in Green Bay and could be in for one last ride. NFL insider Tom Pelissero revealed this isn’t an attempt to convince Rodgers, but it could be enticing for the four-time NFL MVP.

The Steelers haven’t had a losing record in about two decades. Whether it finally happens is up to McCarthy and his roster, but they’ll be looking to stack playoff wins instead. McCarthy has a history of failing to get it done in big moments, but he also has a Super Bowl. The Steelers are banking on getting the Super Bowl version of McCarthy, not the one that would continue their era of mediocrity in the AFC.
