The Pittsburgh Steelers have made one of the most significant offseason moves, signing Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal to take over at quarterback. But according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, they’re not done yet.
With training camp approaching, the Steelers are reportedly still searching for another offensive weapon, and general manager Omar Khan has been actively exploring options. The team has already revamped its offseason by acquiring DK Metcalf, and now they appear to support Rodgers in his first season with the franchise.
Pittsburgh Steelers Looking to Add Another Pass-Catching Weapon for Aaron Rodgers
Pittsburgh has prioritized upgrading its offense this offseason, making bold moves to solidify its passing game. But according to Rapoport, the front office still sees room for improvement.
“I do expect the Steelers to continue to search for one more weapon,” Rapoport said on NFL Network on June 6. “That is what general manager Omar Khan has done over the course of the last several weeks.”

With Rodgers leading the offense, the Steelers aim to surround him with as much firepower as possible, ensuring the unit can compete with the AFC’s elite.
One of the names linked to Pittsburgh is former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis.
“They hosted Gabe Davis on a visit,” Rapoport said. “Not quite ready to sign just health-wise yet …”
Davis would bring a deep-threat element to the Steelers’ passing game, giving Rodgers another reliable target alongside Metcalf. While Davis has been inconsistent at times, his ability to stretch the field and make big plays down the sideline could make him an ideal fit in Pittsburgh’s offense.
The Steelers have several options in free agency, but Davis remains a top target due to his familiarity with high-powered offenses and his ability to make an impact in pressure situations.
Rapoport reported on June 8 that Davis is also paying a visit to the New Orleans Saints.
Steelers Exploring Jonnu Smith, Kyle Pitts as Tight End Trade Options
In addition to Davis, the Steelers have reportedly made calls about multiple tight ends, including Jonnu Smith and Kyle Pitts. Both pass-catchers have a history with Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.
“They’ve had their eyes on some tight ends, too. Jonnu Smith, there was a phone call there. Kyle Pitts, there was a phone call there.”
Smith, who had a career-best season in Miami last year, would provide a versatile pass-catching option, while Pitts remains one of the league’s most talented young tight ends. A move for Pitts would be more complex, given his high trade value, but Pittsburgh has been actively searching for ways to improve its tight end depth behind Pat Freiermuth.
With training camp approaching, Pittsburgh seems determined to add one more offensive weapon before the season begins.
Whether it’s Davis, Smith, Pitts, or another name, the Steelers are clearly not done building their offense around Rodgers. As the 2025 season approaches, expect Pittsburgh to make another move to solidify its roster.
