On Thursday, Jan. 22, Casemiro announced on his Instagram account that he will leave the Red Devils at the end of the 2025-26 season. His team also confirmed the player’s decision in a separate post on X, expressing gratitude for his services.
On his Instagram post, the ex-Real Madrid man wrote as a caption, “Knowing when stages come to an end. Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever. Casemiro, who will turn 34 in a month, has decided against activating his one-year contract extension at the Red Devils, according to The Athletic. As a result, the defensive midfielder will enter the free agent market after the expiration of his current contract this June.
Following his announcement, the five-time UEFA Champions League and three-time La Liga winner claimed he will continue to be at his best until the end of the ongoing season.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club,” Casemiro told club media.

Casemiro added, “It is not time to say goodbye, there are many more memories to create during the next four months. We still have a lot to fight for together… my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”
So far this campaign, Casemiro has found the back of the opposition net four times and laid out an assist in 21 matches across all competitions for Manchester United. He is next likely to be in action in the Red Devils’ away league contest at Arsenal on Sunday, Jan. 25.
Since leaving Real Madrid in a potential $94 million move in the summer of 2022, Casemiro has helped the Old Trafford team lift the EFL Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
