Manchester United fan Frank Ilett, also known as ‘The United Strand’, has emerged as a big talking point over the last few days. His claim of not having a haircut until his beloved team win five straight games has prompted comments from pundits and players alike.
Manchester United Attacker Indifferent About Viral Fan
Earlier on Tuesday, Feb. 10, Manchester United’s four-match winning streak came to an end after recording a 1-1 league draw at West Ham United. Benjamin Sesko rescued a point for the visitors in the dying moments of the clash following Tomas Soucek’s opener.
In the aftermath of the Red Devils’ away draw against West Ham, social media was flooded with posts poking fun at Ilett, whose wait was extended to close to 500 days.
However, Manchester United summer signing Matheus Cunha has stated he is not bothered about Ilett’s ongoing challenge as he is solely focused on playing well for his club.
“People are more worried about getting five wins because of the haircut than about the 15 points. So, I’m more for the 15 points, I don’t care about his haircut at all. We talk about it sometimes, but it’s not very motivating for us,” the Brazilian commented.
Cunha, who left Wolverhampton Wanderers for around $84 million last July, continued, “We don’t see it as cool. No one wants those five wins more than we do… whatever. But I think having this pressure from his haircut hides the beauty that could be in the season.”
Cunha, 26, has been a vital part of the Red Devils’ current five-match unbeaten run, having registered two goals and an assist in the aforesaid period. Overall, he has bagged six goals and two assists in 25 overall appearances for his new club so far this season.

Meanwhile, Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney has asserted he is tired of hearing about Ilett in the recent past, slamming the influence of social media on the sport now.
“We’re talking about Michael Carrick and Manchester United trying to win their fifth game in a row and the whole thing is about this guy getting his hair cut. I bet he’d be devastated if we win the fifth game because, all of a sudden, he’s irrelevant. It’s doing my head in. That is where football has gone now with social media,” Rooney recently opined.
The Old Trafford club are currently fourth in the 2025-26 Premier League standings with 45 points from 26 games after finishing in 15th place with just 42 points last term.
