In recent times, Manchester United fan Frank Ilett has gone viral for sticking to his claim of not getting a haircut until the Red Devils men’s team registers five straight wins. Following a recent 1-1 draw at West Ham United, his wait was extended to close to 500 days.
And, the Red Devils women’s team has jumped at the opportunity to poke fun at Ilett.
Manchester United’s Women Players Mock Frank Ilett
Earlier on Thursday, Feb. 12, Manchester United recorded a 3-0 away win over Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Women’s Champions League last-16 first-leg clash. They relied on a goal each from Elisabeth Terland, Melvine Malard, and Julia Zigiotti Olme.
After opening the scoring in the third minute of the continental contest against the Spanish side, Terland and Maya Le Tissier trolled Ilett during their goal celebration. They were seen pretending to cut their ponytails during their team’s sixth successive win.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils women’s side will next face London City Lionesses in a Women’s Super League home encounter this Sunday, Feb. 15. They will then face Atletico Madrid again in their Champions League second-leg contest on Feb. 19.
Ilett, known as ‘The United Strand’, has asserted he will continue with his viral challenge of not cutting his hair until his beloved club win five matches in a row. After the men’s team’s Premier League away draw at West Ham, he remarked on social media, “Make no mistake, this has still been a really positive run. I really thought this was the time.”
On a different note, the Netherlands’ great Ruud Gullit has suggested former Red Devils striker Robin van Persie should be named Manchester United’s full-time manager this year.

The former AC Milan and Chelsea star told Gambling Insider, “It would be great if Robin van Persie became the manager of United in the future. I definitely hope that happens at some point! Robin is a great manager, but he’s struggling a little bit at Feyenoord at the moment. I feel like the expectations for him are very high because of the career he had.”
“He’s under fire over here in Holland at the moment, but I hope he’s given time to rectify it and prove how good he is. Look what happened with Sir Alex Ferguson, they kept him, and look how good he ended up being! Down the line however, I think it would be great for him to manage at Old Trafford one day,” Gullit concluded.
Manchester United, who are currently on a five-match unbeaten run under interim manager Michael Carrick, are fourth with 45 points from 26 Premier League matches. The Red Devils will next take on Everton in an away league clash on Monday, Feb. 23.
