Manchester United legend Roy Keane is one who does not mince his words as a soccer pundit. And now, he has labelled out-of-favor Red Devils midfielder Kobbie Mainoo’s brother an ‘idiot’ in a recent rant.
What has the former Manchester United captain said about Mainoo’s brother?
Keane Reacts to Recent Stunt in Manchester United Draw
Earlier on Monday, Dec. 15, Manchester United registered a 4-4 Premier League home draw against Bournemouth. Amad Diallo, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Matheus Cunha were all on target in the Ruben Amorim-coached side’s recent game at Old Trafford.
During the latest eight-goal thriller, Jordan Mainoo-Hames was seen wearing a ‘Free Kobbie Mainoo’ T-shirt. He seemed to try to raise concerns about his brother’s current situation.
Reacting to Mainoo-Hames’ stunt, Keane commented on the Stick to Football podcast (via Manchester Evening News), “Are you telling me that he can’t sit there for another six months? He might think the manager’s on his way out in the summer. He’s 20 years of age, what’s wrong with sitting and learning your trade? And even if he’s not getting a chance, we’ve all had to do it. Sometimes a manager is on your case and what you have to do is prove them wrong.”
Keane urged Mainoo to ignore his brother’s antics and to fight for a spot in the starting XI.
“Every day is your chance to prove yourself to the manager and when the manager is picking his team, (he goes) ‘he has to play’. He’s got to get that in his mindset. And when he’s got his idiot of a brother doing all that… we shouldn’t even be giving that kind of stuff the time of day. Sometimes you’re just surrounded by idiots, especially the families,” Keane continued.
Since Amorim was appointed Manchester United’s head coach, Mainoo has dropped down in his club’s pecking order. He has featured in just 1,737 minutes of action for his club since November 2024, starting only 16 of his 40 total appearances.

Manchester United Add 2 Midfielders To Transfer Wish List
According to The Sun, Manchester United have earmarked two Bournemouth midfielders as potential new signings. Their scouting team have been impressed with both Alex Scott and Tyler Adams in the recent past and could launch moves for them in the summer.
Scott, who turned 22 earlier this August, has cemented himself as one of the most exciting Under-23 stars in the Premier League in 2025. He has started 14 of his 16 appearances in the Premier League for Bournemouth, scoring once, so far this season.
Adams, on the other hand, has started all 15 of his Premier League appearances this term, combining with Scott in the centre of the park. The American holding midfielder has netted two goals and provided one assist for his club in the 2025-26 campaign.
