Manchester United failed to hold on to their lead three times in their 4-4 home league draw against Bournemouth earlier on Monday, Dec. 15. And, Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes revealed his sadness over his club’s summer stance after the end of the thrilling stalemate.

Bruno Fernandes Claims Manchester United Hierarchy Wanted To Sell Him
After scoring a 77th-minute free-kick and assisting Manchester United’s second goal earlier on Monday, Fernandes chose to address a past situation involving his club’s leadership. The 31-year-old opened up on how hurt he was by the Red Devils’ desire to cash in on him.
“From the club’s side, I felt a bit like, ‘If you leave, it’s not so bad for us.’ It hurts me a bit. More than hurting, it makes me sad because I’m a player who has nothing to criticize. I’m always available, I always play, good or bad. I give my all. Then, you see things around you… that makes you sad,” Fernandes said (via GOAL).
Addressing his rumored links to Saudi Pro League teams in the summer, Fernandes added, “If one day, I have to play in Saudi Arabia, I’ll play in Saudi Arabia. My lifestyle will change, my children’s lives will be sunny, after six years in Manchester with cold and rain, I’ll be playing in a growing league, with renowned players.”
Fernandes, whose current contract is set to expire in June 2027, concluded, “The club wanted me to go, I have that in my head. I told the directors that, but I think they didn’t have the courage to make that decision, because the manager wanted me. If I had said I wanted to leave, they would have let me go.”
With Fernandes set to turn 32 next season and him being in the final 18 months of his deal, Manchester United could decide to offload the Portuguese in the near future. However, they are quite reliant on the star, who has 12 goal contributions in 16 league games this term.

Since arriving from Sporting CP in January 2020, Fernandes has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Premier League. He has also helped his club lift the FA Cup and the EFL Cup so far.
The four-time winner of the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award has scored 103 goals and laid out 93 assists in 307 matches across competitions for Manchester United. He has recorded 125 goal involvements in 211 Premier League appearances.
Fernandes will next be in action in a league game at Aston Villa next Sunday, Dec. 21.
