Manchester United fan, The United Strand, has been going viral on social media after not cutting his hair for over a year. Wayne Rooney has now chimed in on his antics and slammed him.
Wayne Rooney Not Happy With Manchester United Fan
In October 2024, a Manchester United fan, Frank Ilett, made a bold statement: he would not cut his hair until the club won five matches in a row across all competitions. Little did he know that they would still be searching for it nearly 500 days later.
The Red Devils gave him fresh hope in recent weeks, after the appointment of Michel Carrick changed the club’s fortunes. They defeated Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham – leaving the fan with just one more win before he could cut his hair.
They were up against West Ham United, a side battling relegation this season, and many were confident that they would get the win and help the fan get a haircut. However, they ended up drawing the match to the Hammers, leaving Ilett on the end of jokes and memes on social media.
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has now commented on the viral fan, and slammed him for his antics. He believes that the focus is shifting from the head coach and his players, who are working hard to win the matches for the club. He was on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast soon after the West Ham United draw and said:
“I’d put him to the other side of the country. He is doing my head in. We are talking about Michael Carrick and Man United trying to win their fifth game in a row and the whole thing is about this guy getting his haircut. I bet he is devastated if Man United win because he will be irrelevant.”

Carrick and Bruno Fernandes also commented on the fan last week after the win over Tottenham, but dismissed suggestions that they were thinking about it. They said that it was not something they were focused on or paying attention to, as they wanted to get points on the table for the club to get back into the UEFA Champions League.
Man United does not have matches for the next 13 days as the weekend is dedicated to the FA Cup matches for top-flight clubs. Carrick’s men are getting a much-needed break after playing nine matches in the last 45 days.
