Manchester United are relishing a new lease on life following back-to-back triumphs against Manchester City and Arsenal. However, the Red Devils have recently received a big blow as a first-team starter is reportedly set to be sidelined for over two-and-a-half months.
Manchester United Ace To Be out of Action With Serious Injury
According to The Athletic, Manchester United man Patrick Dorgu is set to be unavailable for 10 weeks after sustaining a hamstring problem earlier on Sunday, Jan. 25. He picked up his injury while chasing a long ball in the second half of his side’s 3-2 victory at Arsenal.
Dorgu, who scored a spectacular volley in the 50th minute of the Red Devils’ latest contest, is expected to return after March’s international break. The extent of his injury is still being assessed by his club’s medical team, with a return date still deemed to be uncertain.
The 12-cap Denmark international’s injury is a significant blow to Manchester United as the player started all of their last eight games across competitions. The 21-year-old has netted three goals and laid out as many assists in 24 total matches for his side this term.
With Dorgu set to be out of action for a considerable amount of time, Matheus Cunha could regularly start on the left wing in caretaker manager Michael Carrick’s 4-2-3-1 system. The Brazilian, most notably, scored the winner in the recent 3-2 league win at Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Red Devils legend Gary Neville has showered praise on Dorgu owing to his fine performance against Premier League leaders Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
“You can’t say anything bad about him because he’s a willing runner. He always wanted the ball and worked hard under Ruben Amorim. But, you thought, what is he? How is he going to get the club back to where they need to be?,” Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast.

“Amorim (used to) put him at wing-back and you thought, ‘Oh no.’ But looking at him now, he’s obviously a winger. His goal (at Arsenal) was absolutely brilliant. Patrick Dorgu typifies what has happened at Manchester United in the last week,” Neville concluded.
Since leaving Lecce in a potential $40 million move in January 2025, Dorgu has contributed three goals and four assists in 44 games across all competitions for the Red Devils.
On the other hand, the Old Trafford outfit are currently in fourth spot in the Premier League table with 38 points from 23 matches. They will next be in action in a home league contest against Fulham, who are seventh with 34 points, on Sunday, Feb. 1.
