Following Manchester United’s latest away league win against Arsenal, Red Devils caretaker head coach Michael Carrick has been in the spotlight. And, WWE star Nick Aldis has heaped special praise on Carrick by referring to one of his past SmackDown moments.
Manchester United Boss Lauded After Win at Arsenal
After the Red Devils’ second successive Premier League win, Aldis took to X to offer his two cents on Carrick, suggesting the Red Devils boss has proved to be a fine hire.
Reposting Manchester United’s X post celebrating Carrick’s impact at the club, the 39-year-old English professional wrestler remarked, “The best start to a managerial career since I told Dom I was a big fan of his dad.”
Aldis, whose ring name was Brutus Magnus or simply Magnus, replaced Adam Pearce as the General Manager of SmackDown in October 2023. During his unveiling ceremony, Aldis was accompanied by Dominik Mysterio in the ring and added that he was a fan of his father, Rey Mysterio. He went viral on social media because Dominik and Rey were in a feud at the time.
On the other hand, Carrick is relishing an exceptional start to his second stint as his former team’s caretaker boss. The former Manchester United midfielder has helped the Red Devils beat Manchester City 2-0 and Arsenal 3-2 in two back-to-back league games so far.
During his first stint as Manchester United’s caretaker boss in late 2021, Carrick had guided the Red Devils to two wins and a draw in three overall outings. He had also overseen a 3-2 league win over Arsenal, coached by Mikel Arteta, at Old Trafford on Dec. 2, 2021.

Meanwhile, Red Devils great Roy Keane believes that Carrick should not be deemed as a full-time candidate for the Old Trafford outfit’s head coach role this summer.
“If United win every game until the end of the season, I still wouldn’t be giving him the job. I wouldn’t be convinced he’s the man for the job. They need a bigger and better manager,” the seven-time Premier League-winning former midfielder said on Sky Sports.
“The size of the club and the challenges they will face over the next few years, you want a manager who can get them winning league titles. Are we going to sit here and believe he can get United winning league titles? It’s not enough for me,” Keane concluded.
The Red Devils will next face Fulham in a Premier League home clash on Sunday, Feb. 1.
