Manchester United Duo Told They Are ‘Symbol of What Has Gone Wrong’ at Club As Pundit Makes Scathing Claim

A former Premier League-winning defender has urged two Manchester United players to secure their exits as early as possible.

Manchester United have endured tough times on the pitch in recent seasons, finishing 15th in the Premier League last season being the lowest point. And an ex-Red Devils right-back has aimed at two first-team stars for their role in their club’s recent failures.

Pundit Hits Out at Manchester United Pair in Fierce Rant

During a recent interview with MyBettingSites, Paul Parker asserted that Manchester United should sell both centre-back Harry Maguire and left-back Luke Shaw in the future.

“Maguire and Shaw are a symbol of what has gone wrong at Manchester United and I can’t get my head around people thinking they are the solution. Both of them should have been offloaded a long time ago… but, they are still here collecting their paychecks. The fact that they are still here is a joke,” the former 19-cap England international commented.

Parker, who represented the Red Devils from 1991 to 1996, questioned both the defenders’ hunger for success at the club level despite claiming neither is the worst Red Devils star.

“Are (Maguire and Shaw) the worst players in the team? No… but, they have been here for so long, taking up space in the squad and performing below what you expect from a United player. It is definitely a possibility that they just like being part of United and earning a lot of money, but that tells me a lot about their ambitions,” Parker continued.

The former Chelsea and Fulham defender concluded, “None of them are getting better. At their ages, they have to realise that it is time to move on. They have no future at the club. They were offered a contract and they took it, which is completely fair, but at some point, you have to look yourself in the mirror and accept that you have nothing to offer.”

Maguire, 32, has made just 11 appearances across all competitions for the Old Trafford side this season, starting six outings. The towering centre-back, who arrived from Leicester City for over $106 million in 2019, has scored two goals for his club in the ongoing term.

Shaw, on the other hand, has been one of the first names on the teamsheet since the start of the 2025-26 season. The 30-year-old, who left Southampton in a switch worth up to $40 million in 2014, has started all 22 of Manchester United’s league games this campaign.

Both players are likely to feature in an away league clash at Arsenal on Sunday, Jan. 25.
