Argentina and Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has been dominating the headlines for more than two decades with his world-class displays. And, a former Premier League star has said that the 38-year-old could still be impactful in top European leagues.
Lionel Messi Receives Huge Praise From Ex-Wales Star
During a recent interaction with GOAL, former Wales and Nottingham Forest forward Robert Earnshaw showered special praise on the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“I watched the La Liga before Messi and watched it after him… the joy that he brings to the sport? That’s the key. It’s not about whether you like this player or that player, this team or that team… just as a soccer fan, this guy has done incredible things that can normally only be done on a computer game, on FIFA on the PlayStation,” Earnshaw said.
Earnshaw, who made 65 Premier League appearances for West Bromwich Albion and Derby County, also insisted the Inter Miami star would still shine at the highest level.
“It’s really special that we get to see (him play) still. But he can play in any league and any international team as well. He could play in the UEFA Champions League now. Three weeks before he retires, he would still be able to play at that level. The key is being able to make an impact, and that is what he brings,” the 44-year-old former striker added.
The former Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Chicago Fire player concluded, “In every little detail and area of his game, he will be able to make an impact in any league… that is why he can choose. It doesn’t matter if he is playing against Manchester City or Barcelona or Real Madrid or LA Galaxy, he will still be able to make a big impact.”
