Real Madrid appointed Xabi Alonso in June 2025 following the exit of Carlo Ancelotti, but the Spaniard lasted just seven months at the Santiago Bernabeu. The club has since brought in Alvaro Arbeloa as an immediate replacement, but has not indicated whether he is on a short-term deal or serving as an interim manager.
Jürgen Klopp Comments on Real Madrid Move
Jürgen Klopp has been one of the strongest names linked with Real Madrid this month, with some reports suggesting he is the frontrunner for the job this summer. Los Blancos are eager to have him at the helm as they look for an experienced figure to steady the ship while guiding the club back into a title challenge.
The German is currently without a coaching role but serves as the head of soccer at Red Bull, working across the organization’s clubs by assisting with scouting, philosophical direction, and tactical input when needed. He was also linked with a possible return to Liverpool this season after Arne Slot’s struggles, which have seen the club slide in the Premier League table and fall largely out of the title race.
However, Klopp has no plans to return to the dugout anytime soon. The 58-year-old revealed he has not changed his stance on stepping away from management and is currently focused on building a home with his family.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager said he could return to coaching whenever he chooses but does not feel compelled to do so at this stage of his life. He said, per TNT Sports:
“I don’t expect to change my mind, but I don’t know. We’re building a house right now and my missus wanted to have a really big trophy room. There was another small room and I said, ‘This is enough because we know how many trophies we have, we will not add any.’ It might sound arrogant but I know I can coach a football team. But I don’t need to do it until my last day.”

Real Madrid has attempted to lure Klopp in the past, but the German was content at Anfield. He stepped away from his role at the Premier League club in 2024, citing a lack of energy and the belief that the team needed a manager capable of taking them to the top and sustaining success.
Los Blancos are searching for a similar figure now, as they believe their current squad is capable of challenging Barcelona for the league title.
