Chelsea Make Bold Call on Future of $100 Million Star Amid Real Madrid Interest

Chelsea could surprisingly part ways with one of their crucial first-team starters after the end of the ongoing 2025-26 campaign.

Chelsea have recently started a new era under head coach Liam Rosenior, who arrived from Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg earlier this month. And now, they have allegedly decided to sell one of their first-team starters amid transfer interest from Real Madrid.

So, who is the mystery player Real Madrid have earmarked as one of their top targets?

Chelsea Make Huge Transfer Decision About Real Madrid Target

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are ready to offload Enzo Fernandez for the right price. The Stamford Bridge club are prepared to entertain offers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window with Real Madrid keeping close tabs.

Fernandez, who is reportedly no longer considered untouchable by the Blues’ leadership, is an all-action midfield presence who can contribute on both ends of the pitch. He could prove to be a fine signing for Los Blancos, whose midfielders have performed poorly of late.

The River Plate academy graduate, valued at close to $100 million by Transfermarkt, could start over Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga at Real Madrid. He could also lessen Jude Bellingham’s defensive duties and dictate tempo in a number eight role.

A right-footed midfielder blessed with an eye for a pass, the Argentine moved to Chelsea in a deal worth up to $142 million from Benfica in January 2023. He has bagged 24 goals and contributed 27 assists in 146 matches across all competitions for the Blues so far.

Premier League Icon Labels Recent Chelsea Win ‘Poor’

Earlier this Saturday, Jan. 17, Rosenior tasted success for the first time in a Premier League match as the Blues defeated Brentford 2-0. Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer each scored a goal for the hosts, while Brentford failed to score from five shots on target in the clash.

And Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney believes the Blues were sub-par.

“I thought they were poor today. I thought Brentford were really good and really unlucky to not get anything out of the game. I know Liam really well and know that he will be giving the players a lot of information. The players will have a lot to learn, to learn his system, to learn how he wants to play,” Rooney said on Match of the Day.

Rosenior’s side are currently sixth in the 2025-26 Premier League table with 34 points from 22 matches. They will next face Pafos in the UEFA Champions League this Wednesday.
