Liverpool managed to edge out a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League with a stoppage-time winner. Jamie Carragher was not impressed and hit out at two senior players after the game.
Liverpool Duo Questioned After Alexis Mac Allister’s Heroics Against Nottingham Forest
Arne Slot’s side had the chance to go level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea, but needed all three points at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Feb. 22. The Reds managed to scrape through and get the win, with Alexis Mac Allister scoring deep into injury time.
The Anfield side did not have the best of games, as they failed to have a significant shot on target in the first half. On the other hand, Nottingham Forest had missed a big chance, knocking on the door but failing to score.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, Carragher called out Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo for their performance in the game. He claimed that teenager Rio Ngumoha had done more on the pitch in his 15 minutes than the senior duo who had started the game.

The Reds legend called for Arne Slot to hand more starts to the former Chelsea teenager, as he has shown that he is ready to step up and deliver for the first team when needed. He said:
“That’s one of the biggest robberies I’ve seen in the Premier League this season. Ngumoha did more in 15 minutes than Salah and Gakpo did before that. He changed the game and needs to be starting games. There’s no-one better in getting last-minute winners in Premier League – and that is Liverpool.”
Match-winner Mac Allister also spoke to the media after the game, admitting it was a mixed feeling following the win. He echoed Carragher’s comments that they were poor in the match and were lucky to come away with all three points.
“Mixed feelings, to be honest. Love scoring, love winning. In that sense, it’s a really good day. But I don’t think we played very well. There are things we need to improve, but it’s always nicer when we win. I knew I would get another one. Before the throw-in, I told Hugo [Ekitike] it would be our situation. But I had another opportunity, and I am glad it went in.”
Liverpool remains sixth in the Premier League table on goal difference but is level on points with Chelsea and Manchester United, who sit fourth and fifth. The Red Devils can go clear in fourth on Monday, Feb. 23, if they beat Everton in their match at Old Trafford.
