Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is heading towards the end of his contract and has been linked with a move to the MLS. Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter was asked about the rumors, and he has made some interesting comments.
Chicago Fire Have Barcelona Star Robert Lewandowski on Their Discovery List
Lewandowski will become a free agent at the end of the season as he has not been offered a new deal at Barcelona. The Polish star reportedly has an offer on his table from Chicago Fire, amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.
According to a report in SPORT, Fire has the discovery rights for Lewandowski, blocking any other MLS club from signing him without agreeing on a fee with the Chicago-based side. They have already offered the former Bayern Munich star a 2-year deal, and the Spanish publication claims that it is under consideration.
Berhalter was quizzed about the reports, and he quickly said there was nothing to report on negotiations. He heaped praise on the Barcelona star, saying that the striker was the best in Europe, and said:
“I won’t comment on the negotiations between Lewandowski and Chicago Fire, but I can say that he is an excellent player. Over the past 15 years, there has not been a single player in the top five European leagues who has scored more goals than Lewandowski. He does it everywhere he plays. I’m a big fan of his. I’ve been following him for many years, and I’m sure that if you like football and goals, you’ll definitely like Lewandowski.”
Barcelona have been slowly preparing for life after Lewandowski, with manager Hansi Flick using Ferran Torres as his main striker. They have also been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, who is open to making the switch.

The German manager has refused to comment on Lewandowski’s contract situation, saying it was not the ideal time to discuss it. He admitted that the Polish legend wanted to play more, and an exit was on the cards.
Inter Miami was also linked with Lewandowski, but they have since signed Germán Berterame from Monterrey as the long-term replacement for Luis Suárez, who also extended his deal by a season at the Eastern Conference club.
