Manchester United are currently relishing a five-match unbeaten streak, with a host of first-team stars impressing in the past month. And, Red Devils great Gary Neville is of the belief one of United’s players would have been a great signing for two other clubs.
Manchester United Attacker Receives Unique Praise
During a recent interaction on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, Neville insisted Red Devils ace Bryan Mbeumo would have proved to be a fine addition for Chelsea and Arsenal.
“If you look at it now, Mbeumo would probably have been better for Chelsea and Arsenal than the players they got. I think Joao Pedro has done quite well (at Chelsea) but Mbeumo… I mean, he would have been a sensation for Arsenal wouldn’t he? He’s a good signing for Manchester United, a really solid signing. I like him a lot,” Neville said.
Agreeing with the former Red Devils right-back, Arsenal legend Ian Wright insisted Mbeumo would have bolstered the Mikel Arteta-coached side’s squad this campaign.
“He always looks dangerous. When you see how he plays, absolutely (he would have strengthened Arsenal). It’s the same with (Manchester City star Antoine) Semenyo. You watch Semenyo and think, ‘I could see him at Arsenal’. I could see Mbeumo at Arsenal as well. Gutted (that Arsenal did not sign him),” the former Gunners striker added.
Mbeumo, 26, turned a lot of heads during his breakout campaign at Brentford in the 2024-25 season. He helped the Bees finish 10th in the Premier League table last term, producing 20 goals and eight assists in 38 league appearances in the process.

Last summer, the Cameroon international opted to secure a move to Manchester United for an initial fee of $88 million and $8 million in add-ons. He has started life at his new club on a great note, having registered 10 goals and two assists in 22 total games this term.
Instead of adding Mbeumo to their ranks, Arsenal signed Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP and Noni Madueke from Chelsea last summer. Had the Red Devils man joined the Gunners, he could have started either on the left wing or in a false nine role.
On the other hand, Chelsea signed five attackers last summer. They snapped up Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion, Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, and Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United. The west London outfit also roped in Estevao from Palmeiras and Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund to better their 2025-26 squad.
