Ex-Chelsea Star Claims Mohamed Salah’s Talent Has ‘Disappeared’ and Brands Liverpool Winger As ‘Really Average’

Mohamed Salah has struggled to reach the same heights of Liverpool's Premier League title-winning 2024-25 season in the ongoing campaign.

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has struggled to replicate his form from last season amid his side’s below-par performances. And, a former Chelsea star has suggested Salah is past his best and claimed his recent displays have been inelegant.

Mohamed Salah Ridiculed for Poor Liverpool Campaign

Earlier this Wednesday, Feb. 11, Liverpool bounced back from their 1-2 home league defeat against Manchester City with a 1-0 away league triumph against Sunderland. Reds captain Virgil van Dijk scored the decisive goal from a corner taken by Salah.

After the end of the Merseyside outfit’s recent Premier League win, ex-Chelsea centre-back Frank Leboeuf shared his two cents on the 33-year-old Egyptian international.

“At some point, even when he was scoring goals, you could have seen some clumsiness. I find it strange from a player like him, he’s kind of clumsy. This season, it’s like we only see the clumsiness,” the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner said on ESPN FC.

Leboeuf also expressed his surprise over the left-footed winger turning into a shadow of his former self after being named the 2024-25 Premier League Player of the Season.

“It’s insane because he went from being somebody exceptional to being a really average player. It’s worrying me because he doesn’t deserve this. Salah has shown, especially in his time at Liverpool, all his talent. Where is his talent? It’s like it disappeared,” he added.

Salah, who is reportedly Liverpool’s highest-paid player, came under fire earlier this season after a fiery interview in which he criticized his side’s leadership last December. However, he is said to have resolved the past issue, having started six straight games of late.

The former Chelsea attacker, who registered 57 goal involvements in only 52 overall games for the Reds last term, has made 26 total appearances for the Reds this campaign. He has netted six times while assisting seven goals for his side this season.

On the other hand, Reds midfielder Florian Wirtz has hailed his team’s gritty display during their 1-0 Premier League win against Sunderland at Stadium of Light.

“A really good performance, I think it’s not easy to win here. We had to fight really hard to get chances and also then scored with a set-piece, so that shows how difficult it can be to play here. But, we are very happy we got the three points,” Wirtz told club media.

Meanwhile, the Arne Slot-coached side will next face Premier League team Brighton & Hove Albion in their FA Cup fourth round clash at Anfield on Saturday, Feb. 14.
