“First-team player Frenkie de Jong sustained an injury to the distal biceps of his right leg during this morning’s training session. Medical tests have confirmed that the expected recovery period will be approximately five to six weeks.”
The injury layoff comes at a tough time for the Catalan side and will see the Dutchman miss at least seven matches, starting with the Villarreal clash this weekend. They also have a massive Copa Del Rey clash next week against Atletico Madrid, where they are trailing 4-0 after the first leg at the Metropolitano earlier this month.

Hansi Flick spoke about the upcoming second leg, confirming that it will be difficult to make a comeback in the tie, but he did not think it would be impossible. He was confident of doing it at the Camp Nou with the fans behind them, adding that their record at home had given them more confidence.
“It is difficult, but not impossible. I think the most important thing is we have to believe we can come back. We have to give it our all for those 90 minutes or maybe more; we have to fight for the team, for the Club and for the fans. We need to have the fans on side and we have to fight together against Atlético.”
“We haven’t lost a game since we have been back at the Spotify Camp Nou. We have to go out with this positive feeling and try to make the comeback happen. With our fans and in our stadium, everything is possible.”
Apart from the Villarreal and Atletico Madrid clash, De Jong is also expected to miss league matches against Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla, and Rayo Vallecano. He will also be sitting out of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 ties against Newcastle United or Paris Saint-Germain.
