Pep Guardiola’s future has been a topic of discussion for some time, and this intensified this season after reports suggested that Manchester City were holding talks with then-Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca. The Spaniard has dismissed the rumors so far, but the rumors continue to dominate the media.
Pep Guardiola Could Leave Manchester City This Week
Man City’s season is not going as planned, and the club is doing all they can to get back to their best. They have signed Antoine Semenyo and have a deal in place for Marc Guehi, who is set to join this week from Crystal Palace despite interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.
However, the results on the pitch are an issue, with another slip-up in the Premier League this week. They lost to Manchester United at Old Trafford, and now rumors about Guardiola’s future at the club are back.
According to BeIN Sports broadcaster Richard Keys, Guardiola could announce his exit from the Cityzens this week. He claimed after the Manchester derby loss that the club will likely deny the rumors, but he has been told that the manager was considering it.
Keys went on to claim that former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will be taking over if the Spaniard steps down and said:
“I think, nailed on, [Guardiola is] gone at the end of the season, but do not rule out – and if this happens, remember where you heard this first – do not rule out him leaving. This week. This week. And if he goes this week, Maresca will be in charge for the match against Wolves next week.”
Keys went on to claim that Vincent Kompany is also a target, but the Bayern Munich manager will only come into the picture if Pep Guardiola stays until the end of the season and added:
“City will be apoplectic, I’ve said that. They will deny it, of course. But it’s on his mind, telling you, it’s on his mind to leave this week. And I think, You know, we often, he does this a lot. I’m not saying you can read too much into this [pointing at Guardiola clapping Manchester City fans] But on this occasion, perhaps you can. He’s gone at the end of the year anyway. So I mean that’s a given, gone. Yeah, and I think Kompany then comes into the frame [in the summer]. If he goes this week, Maresca.”
Maresca is without a club following his exit from Chelsea on New Year’s Day. He has been linked with the Cityzens, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
